CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Things started getting mean-spirited here but it seemed to move into uncharted territory on the I Stand for CBS group. It was entertaining at first watching the Downfall parodies but it just started to feel over time like the group had no reason to exist other than to mock and ridicule for cheap amusement, and that starts to get stale and repetitious after a while.

Cheap amusement? Maybe? But they made themselves such easy targets.

It's amazing how much this fell off my radar as soon as the Facebook page closed. I actually had to remind myself to check here to see if anything developed.

Nope.

If the topic here is drifting to things other than Alec, it should, because it's not a breaking story anymore, and just about everything that can be said about it has been.
There was mockery, damned right there was. That's not why most of us were there. I know a number of us were members of the Axanar Fan Group page, and when we started asking silly questions like "how do you expect to win an IP infringement lawsuit?" and statements like "I don't think this is going to work out well. Copyright law doesn't work that way," we were banned. Some being chewed out and treated like shit by the Admins of the page as they were booted.

Then, Alec tells his "Marines" to join the CBS page and start shit, which they do. After that, it was open and punches weren't pulled any longer.

Its all a great laugh -Axanar will fail -based on a minute scene the movie will be crap -its good because Peters is this or that.
I donated money based on what I saw in prelude and I liked the basis of the story. I come on here and find out I'm either an idiot for donating because I was not aware of soap opera drama politics that this place feeds on or I'm somehow in service to Alec or guilty. You really should look at how fans like yourselves will be impacted when the money they donated is lost.

Not to burst the self-rightous bubble, but quiet a few people here donated. I actually feel sorry for the fans, they're the ones continuously getting fucked over.

Except the one who doxxed Squiggy. Sympathy only goes so far.

It didn't help that (in the end) some of the loudest posters were some of this place's banned lunatic fringe. I know blocking them from the outset would have defeated the purpose (not falling into Alec's zealous censorship habits), but that was a big hint that things were going to get ugly.

Really? I'm Self Rightous for pointing out that perhaps people should consider those that donated and may see nothing as a result might not see this as all giggles and drama to feed off?

Those are exactly the people I'm concerned about.

There are folks who donated over $1000 to either the KS or IGG (perhaps both). There are folks who are still donating, despite the fact that this is happening. No matter how anyone feels about anything, you have got to look at this production and have some doubts. Even the most fervent true believers have got to, if they have any sense at all, be seeing there are going to be delays. There already are, and there already had been even before the suit was filed. Delays should = red flags.

I don't know what the current donors think they're funding. It's likely to be travel and copying and whatnot fees for Winston & Strawn at this point. Those are legitimate lawsuit expenses of course. But they are not filmmaking. I really hope the current donors know this.

Did anyone here know about the press release? The one from Tony Todd last September, announcing his leaving the Axanar production? I just found out about it this morning.

https://www.prlog.org/12489801-tony-todd-exits-star-trek-axanar.html

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Tony Todd has left the crowd funded fan film STAR TREK: AXANAR which he was scheduled to star in with principal photography to begin in January 2016.

Tony Todd the star of the CANDYMAN and FINAL DESTINATION franchises, had starred in the short film PRELUDE TO AXANAR as a prelude to the feature, but is now parting ways with AXANAR due to personnel changes and creative differences.

It was announced yesterday August 31, 2015 , that Tony Todd had signed on board the hit CW series THE FLASH and will voice the role of ‘Zoom’ the Flash’s arch nemesis. Todd is currently slated to star in the play GHOST IN THE HOUSE, the story of the late great boxer Jack Johnson, October 9-11 at UCLA’s Schoenberg Hall and the upcoming FRANKENSTEIN for CANDYMAN director Bernard Rose.

Tony would like to thank the fans that supported and financed PRELUDE and the upcoming film based upon his involvement and wishes the cast and crew of AXANAR much success

Tony Todd is represented by Jeff Goldberg Management and by Global Artist Agency.

How do you want people to respond? If you want sympathy, most of it's at the beginning of the thread. If you just want everyone to shut up about it, well...even if this entire BBS shut down tomorrow, it won't happen. Even now, Axanar's still trying to rise publicity.

If it makes you feel any better, youre not an idiot. You've just been caught in the collateral damage of Alec's idiocy. I think even a lot of Alec's critics were surprised at how badly this whole thing was handled.

EDIT: On a happier note, Tony Todd is doing a Frankenstein movie!

Why would we consider their feelings? They were told this very thing might happen and they donated anyway. Granted that disclosure wasn't front and center when they clicked "donate", but it was there.

So you have the people who donated a couple of bucks and no big loss except to their ego. Life moves on.
Or the people who donated tons of money and could afford it. Again, no loss there.
Or the people who donated more than their budget allows - to a self-proclaimed producer of a stolen property who is known around the fandom for being his own biggest fan and has already run one business into the ground.

Do your research. Caveat emptor.

There are folks who are still donating....

Those folks are idiotic and deserve to loose their money.

Fans like yourself should look at how Star Trek overall will be impacted if Axanar loses this suit. It will likely be the end of fan films as we know them because one jackass couldn't follow one simple rule, "don't make money". Fan films have now become a hassle for CBS.

One? Try 21. We have yet been told of who are the other 20 Does are. But it shouldn't be too difficult to tell of the people listed on the Production Team and the Marketing Team including a VFX guy name Tobias Ritcher, who is making a solid income from all of the Trek fan-films since like forever.

I was pointing at the leader of the pack. :techman:
