The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

Just saw the second ep this morning.

WONDER TWIN POWERS, ACTIVATE!

Kidding.

The episode was kinda boring until that final throwdown. There was no ramp up. It was just, talk talk talk, then the Wonder Twins.

But they made it worth it. I cheered for them.

I have reading a bit here before watching, thankfully not too much. The pilot was weak but the second episode was much much better. 4 episodes to go(?) - my final impression will have to wait for that.

In this episode you have a child that was adopted by a stranger and uses his mental powers to try and find his long lost sister.

We also have Mulder and Scully having visions/daydreams about their long lost son. Could it be possible that William is actually using his own mental powers to reach out to them? Is there any possibility that Willian will return before this series' end?

Meh, Chekhov's Gun. I doubt they wasted that much screen time on William in an already super short 6 episode season for no reason. My guess is that finding him will be the big season cliffhanger.

If that was the case then we should be glad he didn't end up like Fry on Futurama.

Yeah the alien mythology started out really compelling and gripping to watch, but after a while Carter piled on so many twists and new players and made it so convoluted that it just became hard to know who the real enemy was, or what Mulder and Scully were actually supposed to be fighting against.

And of course now that the entire thing, and all that we saw, is being dismissed simply as a "smokescreen" to cover up an even larger conspiracy, it's even harder for me to take seriously.

This exactly. I stopped paying attention to it back in 98', since it was becoming a joke. It was started originally since Gillian was pregnant and they just went from there. And it could be downright confusing at times.

A new issue of the Season 11 comic came out today. It's kind of weird that we're getting two independent continuations of series at the same time.

I feel bad for IDW. They did a decent job with their Season Ten and Season Eleven titles (in fact, I hope the revival takes its cue from them on how to "resurrect" the Lone Gunmen) but their continuation of M & S is pretty un-reconcilable with the new canon.

Like the Star Wars EU, these books have been shunted into "alternate universe" territory. It'll be interesting to compare the two versions when both are done.

I'm looking forward to the new X-Files comic series launching in April that's supposed to tie-in with the new episodes.

But by that point in season two, the mythology hadn't even been developed yet. Columbus had not originally planned out the details of the alien conspiracy and was just winging it. Sometime during late season two, IIRC, when the show got popular, he wrote out the show bible.

It was still in its infancy. And he never had a show bible. That's one reason why the XF has gotten on my nerves at last after all these years. Guess I'm tired of writers/show runners doing just that.

You are correct on that, it was never a "bible" only a guide. It's kind of funny that I remember more about the behind the scenes stuff than the actual plot details. For me, the strength of the show was always in the characters and the atmosphere/tone of the series. In fact, because of that, many stand alone episodes were much stronger than the ones tied into the conspiracy.

I also think the show lost a lot when it moved to L.A. The British Columbia location with its harsh and spooky terrain was as much a character in the series as the actors.

i've been enjoying those comics for the most part. i'm curious if IDW will continue with its own comic continuity or begin something new that follows season 10.

Yeah if I ever do a rewatch of the show (which is a lot more tempting now with the blu-rays), I'll probably just focus on the standalone episodes. I'm sure there might be a few continuity issues from the larger mythology that I'll miss, but in the end I just don't think I'd have the patience to sit through those mythology eps again. Especially knowing that it ultimately doesn't lead to all that much.

A fan fixed the titles and replaced the wrong fronts with the correct ones. Also replaced upscaled SD footage from the HD remaster:

Yea. I remember reading somewhere that CC had the first 5 seasons planned/in mind. Noticed that season 6 seemed to diverge from what came before.

Definitely.

I think there were some good L.A. episodes, but I too agree that it did better in B.C.

My opinion about the first episode:

Its a rough start for the new season. You can see that the people in front and behind the camera got a bit rusty. The dialogue was wooden/forced and the acting uneven; Duchovny and Anderson still feel a little disconnected, the chemistry isnt quite there yet. In the first episode it hasnt clicked.

And the second:

Much better episode than the first one. But it felt pretty cut off, it didnt really have an ending. I still quite dont know what the point of it all was.

But I noticed Gillian Anderson made the choice to play the current Scully in a depressive, disconnected mood. During the flashback scenes Anderson played the Scully from the 90s, so much closer to how Scully was in the old episodes. Scully lost every happiness in the last years.

Boy, I have to get used to Duchovny's much darker voice now. He permenantly sounds like he just got out of bed a minute ago. He had a much softer voice back then, it has gotten much rougher.

Mulder and Scully appear pretty depressed right now. It seems to be closely connected to their son.
