Rewatching Star Trek For the 50th Anniversary

Operation -- Annihilate!

I've forgotten how much I love this episode. The crew has to work together to figure out how to kill the creatures on Deneva and watching Spock having to struggle against the pain was really interesting for the character. I was a little amused though that it was Kirk, and not McCoy and Spock, that came up with the idea of light as a way to kill the creature. You have two scientists and one of those scientists is a Vulcan and they didn't think about the whole light thing? Other than that, this was a very good season finale.

And with that, that wraps up Season 1, which is quite a long season. Hopefully I'll get into season 2 later this week but here are my top 5 favorite episodes of Season 1 after having just watched it.

City on the Edge of Forever
Space Seed

It's hard picking a top 5 because you also have Where No Man Has Gone Before, Dagger of the Mind, and The Gailaio Seven

I am fan from the very beginning. I was a kid when it came on in 1966, so . I didn't appreciate it until the series came back in syndication. TOS will always be my fave series. And I love the Kirk and Spock friendship. And McCoy too.
I thought the scene between Spock and McCoy in "Bread and Circus'" was fantastic.

Bread and Circuses is one of the reasons I'm doing this. Not the episode itself per say, but just visiting episodes I haven't seen in a long long time

Operation--Anahilate was one of those episodes today. Such a great episode I've only seen once or twice before.

Great episode! Not exactly a highlight of the series, but seriously entertaining storytelling that makes you think.

I liked how Spock played chess with the computer after Kirk said maybe he'd be able to beat his next captain at chess. Jim has not only his lawyer to thank for his freedom but also a certain Vulcan friend/brother

Amok Time

I'm finally starting Season 2 tonight with one of the most famous episodes of the series. I always love this episode, mainly for two reasons: The Music and Vulcan background. We finally get to Vulcan for the first time in the franchise and this sets up so much of what is to come. The music is still amazing to this day, and I still love that it was used in the movie The Cable Guy. Also, Vulcan Melodrama could be an interesting soap opera. Got to love T'Pring's logic, if only to have Kirk and Spock duel it out to the death.

Amok Time

I'm finally starting Season 2 tonight with one of the most famous episodes of the series. I always love this episode, mainly for two reasons: The Music and Vulcan background. We finally get to Vulcan for the first time in the franchise and this sets up so much of what is to come. The music is still amazing to this day, and I still love that it was used in the movie The Cable Guy. Also, Vulcan Melodrama could be an interesting soap opera. I loved how Spock yelled at Kirk in the beginning and Kirk's reaction. He was trying to be his friend and showed his concern. And then thought he was helping Spock by fighting him, not knowing that it was a fight to the death. Then Spock's reaction at the end. ALL GOOD.

Socks reaction at the end was priceless. We finally got to see the half human side and he wasn't yelling

Who Mourns for Adonais

I'm not a fan of this episode. A lot of it felt really repetitive and pretty talky. I've noticed it with other episodes of Star Trek lately (Return of the Archons being another example) where it feels like you have a 20 minute episode in a 50 minute time limit. Also, what the heck was up with Scotty in this episode? Some of the actions he takes are so out of character it was almost shocking. I did like Kirk's humanity speech, but other than that, a forgettable episode.

I agree they were both meh episodes. And to omit Spock, well that doesn't sit well with me.

Amok time is on right now on British tv, CBS action channel, the wedding party has just showed up. Now that scene where Spock asks Chapel to make him some soup does that mean he accepts her as his true mate? lol BTW I am not a Spock/Chapel shipper but Spock did say a woman should not make food for one who is not hers, which suggests a Vulcan tradition.

As Spock said there is nothing logical about Vulcan wedding rituals. Plus logic does not always equate to common sense lol
