NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? What?

^Don't judge the Seahawks based on last week. They've been playing fantastically lately, with a couple of exceptions. Their offense didn't show up in Minnesota, but I think that was largely due to the weather. The defense looked pretty good in spite of it.

Newton vs Wilson is going to be a very interesting matchup, they are two of the best QBs at the moment.

Word emerging from the owners' meeting is that the Rams and Chargers are going to cohabitate in the Los Angeles area while the Raiders are staying in Oakland.

Start the timer on how long it takes for Los Angeles to get bored of having a football team for, what, the third time? Fourth?

I wish the Chargers would stay in San Diego if they're moving the Rams. Going from zero to two overnight is a bit strange.

I'm glad the Rams are going back home, but I really wish the Chargers would find a way to stay in San Diego. Dean Spanos can spin it however he likes but they have negligible fan support in the LA area.

The Rams are on their way.
The Chargers have 1 year to negotiate a deal to share the Inglewood stadium.
If the Chargers do not or can not get a deal done, the Raiders would then get the change to go to Inglewood with the Rams.
Story

This decision shows that money sure does talk. Kroenke is going to build the most expensive stadium in the league along with development of the surrounding property. Of the three teams, the Rams were the least deserving of getting approval to move. Both the league and Kroenke have called the St. Louis stadium plan inadequate an that was the justification for Rams to want to leave. Obviously. Kroenke doesn't need to have anyone build him a stadium which means he doesn't HAVE to leave St. Louis.

Still though, it is exciting to have the NFL back in L.A. and a new state of the art stadium.

L.A. fans only get bored with losing football teams. But if you're saying that this is the reason the Rams and Raiders left, you would be wrong. Both teams left because of shortsighted money grabs by their respective owners, not because of lack of fan support.

I'm very happy to hear the Rams are coming back to Los Angeles.

Going to start planning my USC/Rams home game weekends!

Yeah, because the Edward Jones Dome obviously isn't good enough, since it's 20 years old already. :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

Ironic, really. The team that most desperately needs a new stadium (the Raiders) is the only one that isn't moving? #doesnotcompute

The Edward Jones Dome is a dump. I was there in 2000, and it was out of date then. A poor excuse of a facility.

I don't disagree about Oakland though. That place needs to be demolished.

Is it used for anything other than football? It won't just sit empty after the Rams move out, will it?

There is room on the site for both the Raiders and Athletics to build new stadia without having to tear down the Coliseum first, amirite? (They may have to demo the Oracle Arena, but that will be abandoned anyway after the Warriors move out.)

And this brings up an interesting and rather disturbing point; from what I have read, the contract the city of St. Louis signed with the Rams included a provision that compelled the city to keep the Rams in a "top tier" stadium presumably, for the duration of their stay in St. Louis. If this is true, then the Rams gave themselves a loophole the size of a mac truck with which to use to facilitate their exit just about anytime they wanted.

BTW, there is no way a 20 year old stadium, no matter where it is or how nice, could be called "state of the art" or even "top tier". Kroenke seriously hosed St. Louis.

And, since Kroenke is financing this thing himself, count on the tickets being even more expensive than in cities with partially publicly funded stadiums.

My question is; in light of the fact you state above (and it is a fact), why were the Chargers given right of first refusal to also move into the Inglewood site and not the Raiders? I have been looking for an answer to this question and haven't seen anything yet. The Chargers have no fans in L.A. and no one wants them. I'm at a loss here.

Finally, I have to give major props to, of all groups, officials of the city and county of L.A. They never knuckled under to the NFL and steadfastly stuck to their guns with regard to NO PUBLIC MONEY. They realized that L.A., being the second largest media market in the nation, is a powerful enough bargaining chip that an offer of public money is not necessary. Years ago, the franchise that went to Houston and became the Texans, would have gone to L.A. IF L.A. had been willing to include public money. That was a big "no", so we went another 10 years without a team. Worked out rather well in the end.

Chargers, stay home, (uh, "second home").

From what I have read, the big dispute is that city of Oakland doesn't want to give the Raiders full control of the entire site for fear that it may chase the A's away. But the fact that the Raiders' path out of Oakland is at least visible now, perhaps a compromise that works for the Raiders, Oakland, and the A's can be worked out.

^ But assuming that there actually is enough room for both the Raiders and the Athletics to build new homes on that site, why would the A's get chased away? I had thought that they were always keen on staying at that site if they could possibly build a new ballpark there.

Are you suggesting that if the Raiders control the whole site, they will intentionally keep the A's from building anything there? Or actually force the A's to leave (like what happened with the Argos at Rogers Centre)? Why would they do that?

I'm not sure of the reason the city thinks that they might lose the A's if the Raiders have full control of the site.

But speculating, it might be that that the city thinks that by just giving the Raiders "all" of the power, that alone might cause the A's to look around. Or, perhaps it's not even true. Maybe the city is using this as an excuse to keep control of the site themselves.

Someone who knows more abut east bay politics may know more about this.

And it injured people. Can't believe there was concrete instead of padding around the walls on the field.

So some stories are focusing on Andy Reid having his challenge flag taken by someone after 2:00 in the first half and he still doesn't know how to manage the clock.
Cardinals up on GB by 1 at the half. Go Arizona, fu©k the Packers!

The Patriots looked strong today. I'm hoping Denver wins because I think Denver is a better team. Someone make sure the Patriots don't get to the Super Bowl.
