What film would you make first?

NOTE: You have a $200 Million Dollar budget & complete freedom to make your movie! :bolian:

    An established intellectual property?

    or

    An original idea?

    ----------

As a fan I'd love to take something I am a fan of and do that, like Superman, Transformers or even Star Trek but I personally would try to do something original that has been kicking around in my brain.

Okay seriously...if I could make a movie it would be a Serenity sequel. Maybe Out of the Trash: The Return of YoSaffBridge.

Alright maybe I'm not cut out to be a movie maker after all...

An original idea would be the ideal, but if I need to recoup my costs, I'd need an established property in today's market.

An original idea. I already have three film scripts.

I've got tons of ideas ranging from short arty ones to sprawling scifi epics.

I guess the best big budget idea I have is this, which would work better as a miniseries than a film. There's this world with a giant sphere surrounding it, blocking the sun and slowly draining all the life force from the world.

The first half would involve trying to recruit dragons and wizards to break through the sphere while fighting off starving hordes of people fighting over the very small remaining food supply.

When they break through the sphere, on the other side they see a scifi utopia that has been living off the energy drained from below. Most of the people have no idea how they get the energy. So you end up with big science fiction versus fantasy battles with wizards fighting gunmen and dragons fighting airships.

Only if you know jack about how modern warships work...it sucks ass if you have even rudimentary knowledge of the subject.

I would like to do a movie adaptation of an early 90's horror video game, Phantasmagoria.

I would also like to do a remake of This Island Earth.

I'd probably adapt Anne McCaffery's Dragonriders of Pern books into a movie series.

Someone's fat lazy butt has been sitting on the rights to a Pern movie for ages now without doing jack squat according to IMDB.

For one single movie, I'd do Robert Silverberg's novel Up the Line (would have to change a few un-PC things for modern audiences). Lord Valentine's Castle might do for a movie, but it would work better as a miniseries.

Actually, most of my SF favorites would work best as either miniseries or full-fledged series (I'm thinking of C.J. Cherryh's Union-Alliance masterwork Cyteen and its sequel, Regenesis). And of course her Merovingen Nights shared world series would make a great TV series.

I had an idea for a Short Circuit remake. Frame it around the idea of a drone that becomes self-aware and decides it doesn't want to kill anymore. It could probably be its own thing, but I keep seeing Johnny 5 in my head when I think about it.

Isn't that true for all shows, though? Just like real doctors and nurses point out the unrealism of doctor shows.

I'm also kicking around an idea that's basically the tone and humor of Archer set in Star Trek-like future where space travel is depressingly realistic. So far I've only written out a failed First Contact scene where the Captain accidentally molests an alien leader and a transporter scene that plays with the idea that it creates a perfect duplicate instead of moving the person.

MM-kay, so my movie wouldn't be for you. It would be for those of us who actually want to see naval warfare in the missile age depicted realistically for once.

Harpoon is a naval warfare simulator created by technothriller author Larry Bond which takes information about modern navies from public sources and uses it to extrapolate combat scenarios.

    I said out, dammit!
I'd put cards saying "Honor Harrington", "Hammer's Slammers", "Lt. Leary", "Posleen invasion", and "Ringworld" up on a board and throw a dart.
