Weird Star Trek rumors

I heard a rumor that during the time Enterprise was being cancelled, everyday people were sending donations and checks to the network, thinking it would help contribute to its survival. I can't remember where I heard this...

That was no rumour.

I can't verify that statement but I tell you we hit them hard here on the BBS. We evaluated every episode, every performance, down to the lighting and costuming. We gave out kudos for outstanding performances and also suggested how to improve scripts that just did not pan out.

We had the production in such knots Braga and Moore were on the BBS posting to our comments trying to do damage control.

We wanted a Enterprise to be better and they tried....they really tried but the talent was not there. And I don't mean the actors. Bakula and Billingsley turned in outstanding performances with dialogue that was pure drivel.

The writing was infantile and illogical, the direction was uneven and many times too slow. Design: costume, set and LIGHTING was horrendous.

The series never had a chance. It would have been nice to save Enterprise but it was painful to watch every week and had to go.

They needed to get rid of the writing staff that had been there since about season 4 of TNG. Which was probably all of them. The steady decline in quality was a direct result, not of the new shows, but of the old writers, and their lack of fresh ideas. This was true of VOY before ENT, as well.

This may not be extremely "weird", but I've read that the reason that Whoopi Goldberg went uncredited on Generations was that the she was entitled to top billing since she was an Academy Award winner, but she didn't want to take this away from Patrick Stewart so she went uncredited. Although, if this was the case, how come Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham get credited behind the TNG cast members in Insurrection.

Such a rule simply couldn't apply to movies. Laurence Olivier played many supporting roles (and was billed accordingly) late in his career.

Not do I recall Sir Alec Guiness getting top-billing in STAR WARS. :)

Seriously, I'm pretty sure there's no such rule.

I didn't think it was true, but I saw it on this website (link below) and I think it counts as a rumor.

Not sure this counts as a rumor, but there was lots of fannish speculation that Saavik had become pregnant after helping Spock through pon farr on the Genesis Planet, and these rumors persisted after she stayed behind on Vulcan in the next movie. Even Robin Curtis figured that Saavik was pregnant and that this was going to pay off at some point, but . . ..

Actor billing is negotiated, plain and simple. There are no rules. For instance, since there was no "star" on Bonanza, the order of the actor billing in the opening titles was rotated episode by episode, so one week it was Dan Blocker first, Michael Landon the next, etc.

Why else would she have stayed on Vulcan then? With Spock's Mum of all people/Vulcans.
Is has to be true..,. LOL

The 50th anniversary is near, so have anybody heard anything about celebrations? Where will it be and what news?

Well, I've heard rumors of a new movie called STAR TREK BEYOND . . . :)

Seriously, there's the concert tour, some big conventions, and (ahem) several books planned for the coming year.

Stewart was going to leave the show after BOBW. As in Picard would be lost to the borg.

Actually, I recall that had some foundation: his contract was up for renewal and they wrote the season finale to leave it open to get rid of him. I don't recall if it was that he wanted more money or if he was simply unsure if he wanted to go on.

The head of Walt Disney is going to rub his hands together and briefing laugh maniacally.

"All in good time, all in good time."

I was always hoping that Elba would play Richard Daystrom. Sadly, that was not to be. :sigh:
Oh gods, yes, could you imagine Idris Elba as Richard Daystrom? He'd be the sexiest scientist ever.
"Hello children, I'm Dick Daystrom. I see you've noticed my rather large M5 unit. Well, just to set the record straight, he's multi-tronic. I'm okay, and he's most assuredly more than OK, babies."
