I heard a rumor that during the time Enterprise was being cancelled, everyday people were sending donations and checks to the network, thinking it would help contribute to its survival. I can't remember where I heard this...
That was no rumour.

I can't verify that statement but I tell you we hit them hard here on the BBS. We evaluated every episode, every performance, down to the lighting and costuming. We gave out kudos for outstanding performances and also suggested how to improve scripts that just did not pan out.
We had the production in such knots Braga and Moore were on the BBS posting to our comments trying to do damage control.
We wanted a Enterprise to be better and they tried....they really tried but the talent was not there. And I don't mean the actors. Bakula and Billingsley turned in outstanding performances with dialogue that was pure drivel.
The writing was infantile and illogical, the direction was uneven and many times too slow. Design: costume, set and LIGHTING was horrendous.
The series never had a chance. It would have been nice to save Enterprise but it was painful to watch every week and had to go.
