CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

This is new on their IndieGoGo page:

PLEASE NOTE: As of 1/30/15 Axanar Productions has been served with a lawsuit by CBS for copyright infringement. We take this issue seriously and will be posting updated on our website www.axanarproductions.com. It is quite possible this will change what exactly we at Axanar Productions deliver. But as always, our donors will be kept fully informed at our website.

The date seems odd as the lawsuit was served on 12/29/15. Unless there is something that we don't know?

I do wonder why IndieGoGo is allowing this to go on when it is clear that they don't know what product they are offering at this point?

It's listed twice (the other one is near the top of the page) and it is in the same size text as everything else.

Okay, my bad, so make that half, or maybe three-quarters of a point. Now if they'll just turn it red and/or make it bigger so people who are actually looking for it don't miss it (let alone the ones that have no clue), they might get the full point.

January 30th, 2015?! The what?

He's daydreaming of a time ship that would let him go back before it went so horriby, horribly wrong...

Technically, he's taken the goalposts down from someone else's field and is now trying to get them off campus before the cops notice.
"Forever indebted to you...." Probably a poor choice of words right now.

:guffaw:

The sort of people that would create any kind of Facebook page about a Star Trek fan film, are probably the people most likely to have brought the restorations. The attempt at passive aggressive guilt-slinging is bizarre.

And no mention of the TOS and ENT blurays that no-doubt also had a lot of work put into them? Wonder why that could be...

There's also the fact that some of us already own fifteen or more seasons worth of Star Trek on DVD, and didn't happen to own a BluRay player until very, very recently...

Put something out in a relatively new format, and you're not going to see the kind of returns you really want. Kinda par for the course.

Hey, were those remastered in widescreen? That might actually be worth buying the BluRays... :)

No. But both TOS and TNG are simply gorgeous in HD. TrekCore.com did some comparisons when TNG came out between the SD and HD versions.

I suspect thats simply a typographical error

Yeah. That and, "We take this issue seriously and we will be posting updated on our website..." and the OK but awkwardly worded, "It is quite possible this will change what exactly we at Axanar Prouctions deliver." All in just four short sentences.

Their attention to detail is astounding. I can see why so many have had complete confidence in them.

Coming Soon from A/x/a/n/a/r P&B Productions: David Gerrold's Star Wolf.

"Given the changed nature and scope of our project, we have to set back the beginning of production. Our talented crew is already in the process of designing new sets, costumes and spacecraft to bring this groundbreaking series to the Internet, and we've reached out to many alums of popular and successful TV series including Star Trek and Babylon 5 to solicit their participation and support.

"Sadly, launching a new series from scratch is an expensive proposition. Our settlement with CBS has required razing the existing sets (yeah, I know, believe me we all share our donors' pain at the thought of all that beautiful work lost). Shortly we'll be announcing our first Star Wolf Kickstarter."

Be careful, Dennis! Don't post it three times. Or sarcasm turns into a prophecy.

Dear fans:
[...]

We had a big meeting yesterday that will have a big impact on the future of what we do. In that meeting I can tell you that YOU the donors were constantly referred to. We are always talking about you all and how we make sure you get a product YOU will be happy with.

[...]

Yes, I can hear it now...

CBS Legal: "Okay, Mr. Peters, you understand that the use of our IP is in violation of the law, correct?"

Anaxad Peters: "Law? The only law are what the donors want. They know what is what."

CBS Legal: "Mr. Peters, we are talking about you."

Anaxad Peters: "I speak for the donors!"

CBS Legal: "Okaaayyyyy, moving on. You are aware that you project is using about half a dozen of CBS-owned copright righted characters and that you have not been given permission?"

Anaxad Peters: "The characters belong to the donors! I am giving the donors the character returns they have demanded in my great professional production!"

CBS Legal: "Sir, you do realize that there are serious criems to deal with in court and that if you donm't handle this properly and refuse to work with us, we can legally and rightfully bury you in Federal Pound Me in the Ass prison, right?"

Anaxad Peters: "Pickles! I mean, Donors!"

Yeah, the difference on TNG is pretty amazing.

I'm not actually terribly surprised about the difference. Not long ago I was randomly watching an ep after buying a bigger TV, and was appalled by the quality. Downloaded the episode on iTunes on a whim, and even that was light years better.

TOS I'll have to check out; I was gifted TOS on BluRay a Christmas or two ago, and finally bought a player... earlier this week.

So yeah.

Indiegogo is very aggressive when it comes to sales. I can't tell you how many emails they sent practically begging and offering everything under that sun if we left Kickstarter and had the STR Episode 2 drive with them. We obviously stayed with Kickstarter.

Why do people think rape is funny? Rape isn't funny.
And, besides, it's a civil matter, not criminal. He won't go to jail.
