CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Well Denise Okuda "liked" a joke I made in the group. It gave me more of a thrill than it should have.
Yeah. Rich Sternbach came to my FB page to wish me happy birthday last year.

They are decent people, the ex-Berman Trek folks. Even Berman himself has been good to me in the past. Shame they aren't on the franchise anymore. I think that's an era of Trek that, and a set of creative people, that deserves a great deal more credit than they get.

This actually makes me wonder what Berman thinks of all this. Assuming he's paying attention.
He keeps quite a low profile online, but he's out there if you know where to look. He hasn't commented on this so far that I can see.

Back in the day, I used to take my digs at Berman and Bragga. But the more I learn about the behind-the-scenes stuff on Trek and learn about the industry, the more I've come to respect both of them and appreciate the difficult situation they were in with trying to keep both fans and the accountants happy.
I'm not a huge Braga fan myself as I don't care for his take on Trek, but I don't have any personal animosity for him. The abuse Berman gets is totally unwarranted . His only "crime" was staying on too long.

This thread flies so quickly - just seen this on the axanar fan group but someone might have posted it:

Dear fans:

We at Axanar have been working our butts off to bring you the best Star Trek we possibly can. Obviously CBS has put up a big road block, which we are dealing with. We want you all to know that your continued support is very heart warming.

We had a big meeting yesterday that will have a big impact on the future of what we do. In that meeting I can tell you that YOU the donors were constantly referred to. We are always talking about you all and how we make sure you get a product YOU will be happy with.

You are all very important to us. We do what we do not only FOR you, but BECAUSE of you. And we are forever indebted to you for allowing us to take this journey with you.
So it was interesting when this came across my desk today:

"We crave explanations for most everything, but innovation and progress happen when we allow ourselves to embrace uncertainty" Simon Sinek

When the waves are their biggest, the best surfers run into the water.
Alec
GET THE ANGLE-GRINDER TO THOSE SERIAL NUMBERS!

"Forever indebted to you...." Probably a poor choice of words right now.

Coming Soon from A/x/a/n/a/r P&B Productions: David Gerrold's Star Wolf.

"Given the changed nature and scope of our project, we have to set back the beginning of production. Our talented crew is already in the process of designing new sets, costumes and spacecraft to bring this groundbreaking series to the Internet, and we've reached out to many alums of popular and successful TV series including Star Trek and Babylon 5 to solicit their participation and support.

"Sadly, launching a new series from scratch is an expensive proposition. Our settlement with CBS has required razing the existing sets (yeah, I know, believe me we all share our donors' pain at the thought of all that beautiful work lost). Shortly we'll be announcing our first Star Wolf Kickstarter."

Would not surprise me in the least if this is the next major announcement. Hell given their proclivity for lifting other people's work they should just copy paste this in their next press release and not attribute it to you Dennis.

Just remember where and when you first read it. ;)

That's not a given. There is the possibility that CBS will agree to license this, if highly unlikely.
it's highly unlikely they will.

they will only license if it meets their standard of Trek.

Meeting the IP holder's standard of Trek is meaningless. They care about the infringement.
Sir, did you ever meet Mallory? i had thought about contacting her regarding the Trek before i make my fan productions happen. she is basically the CBS's IP Legal Licenseer.

She hasn't licensed any fan film. Toleration doesn't amount to official work or permission to use the IP. Peters, in his own words, did not have IP rights and got no indication from the studio this would be tolerated. In fact he got the exact opposite via a public statement.

Nothing is happening at present other than Peters making an announcement that things might change.

ETA: And Dennis was making a joke.

Where is Peters making these announcements? I'm not seeing anything on any of the FB pages or the Axanar site...
