The Star Trek fan film community: What it looks like & where its going

Re: The Star Trek fan film community: What it looks like & where its g

They could try, but Space Adentures wouldn't get any clicks - that's why so many people bank on Star Trek Colon in their title.

Space Command got 221,267 dollars in its kickstarter campaign. I don't think it's impossible.

Hopefully Space Command is not a sign of things to come. It looks terrible.

It really, really does.

But in principle crowdfunding shows you can raise money with a sufficiently convincing promise to serve a given demographic with an original IP (most of the big videogame kickstarters, from Broken Age to Star Citizen, have amounted to this.)

What's wrong with Space Command? I watched the trailer and it actually looks pretty good to me, but then I loved the old sci-fi serials, and I expect with Marc Zicree the writing will be solid. Plus, I kind of maybe might just possibly kinda perhaps in a way have a slight but tiny crush on Sara Maraffino. A lot.

There are other indie Trek-esque projects out there - some have Trek stars - Cowboys & Engines; Nobility with Walter Koenig; Unbelievable with a whole truckload of Trek stars; Humber City; 5th Passenger with Marina Sirtis and a few Voyagers; Polaris of course with Paul Sieber and Nick Cook. Even the team behind Hidden Frontier did a show called Frontier Guard.

Maybe more wannabe fan film makers will start removing the CBS-owned elements and making original projects? Though most fans I think would prefer more Trek.

I read an early draft of a Zicree Space Command script ("Empire") and it was baaaaaaaaaaad.

P.S. ...aaaaaaad.

I think you're right - we would. OTOH, maybe that could generate more content for SyFy or another sci-fi channel?

Where you high? Because the trailer I watched was horseshit.

I won't share much, but under "fair use" I'll share a few little "nuggets":

She indicates her exoskeleton. Lianna finds herself staring at it.

Don’t be embarrassed. It’s like
having big boobs, everyone looks.

But there was no trace of them, not
even an indication of what they

How did they know they had a post on Altair 4 if there was no trace of it?

He’s come to a big Y’maa BRAIN DRAIN DEVICE, with two sets of calibers to fit two heads into. (See the brain-boosting device in FORBIDDEN PLANET.)

Because originality.

Dialogue worthy of Gene Roddenberry himself. I'm sure her oath of celibacy is on record.

Yeesh...you guys are harsh. I've definitely seen worse. Much worse. I'm pretty sure I saw worse in the previews at Star Wars last month. Doesn't look like my cup of tea, but it's not ROTFL awful.

Re: The Star Trek fan film community: What it looks like & where its g

The fact that other things are more horrible than this doesn't mean this isn't also horrible. Charles Manson is horrible, just not as horrible as Hitler.

No, that's so bad it gave me cancer. Picardo is the only thing that isn't horrible, and at least they came up with original stuff - but that kiss in there and, well...everything else makes me want to punch a baby.

Also horrible: that Warcraft movie. I saw a preview before Star Wars and contemplated divorce.

This was made to be mocked by MST3K. I will give them credit for at least coming up with their own thing, although the execution is just mind numbingly bad. It's like the music, old school rocket ships, end logo with cast heads hearken back to those days of exciting sci-fi adventure, but everything else feels horrifically tedious and dull. And that kiss at the end....just bad.

They should've just gone full on camp ala' the 80's Flash Gordon, at least that's fun to watch.
