Would Chewie really have let someone else tell Leia what happened with Han and Ben?

It just seemed like an odd scene - Chewie deserved the scene to me.

Presumably they'd been well within comm range to tell her as soon as they left.

Well Rey and Leia had a moment when they got back. Chewie was a wreck though. Still he seems to have pulled it together to take Rey and R2 to Luke.

^Most likely to get Rey trained to help him avenge Han. I really hope Chewie rips Ren's arms out of their sockets. To hell with redeeming that guy.

There's no telling how much time had passed unless it's in the novelization.

However long it took them to hyperspace back to the Resistance base. Everyone was cheering their victory, but Leia and Rey were bonding while Chewie was sitting in the Falcon. And Finn was being taken to the medics.

I meant however long it took for Chewie to put it back together and go with Rey to find Luke.

Leia obviously knew what had happened and felt it through The Force.

That is an unknown. Leia and Rey had a costume change finally. Finn was still out though.

And so probably did Luke.

They must've talked before arriving to the planet. I suppose Rey must've had a long chat with Leia before arriving, too. At least they must have introduced themselves to each other to make sure hugging in the next scene wouldn't feel so awkward for people who have never met each other before.

I don't think Leia knew for sure until they got back to the Resistance Base (can't remember the name of it). All she had was a feeling. Would she know it was Han?

Try picturing this as the scene (and I apologize ahead of time that I don't speak Wookie):

People celebrating the destruction of the Starkiller Base.

The Millennium Falcon lands and Rey walks down the ramp as Leia walks toward her.

Just as they look at each other, and before they can say anything, they hear GROAR!

Rey turns to look just as Chewie runs past her towards Leia.

Chewbacca is barking and howling at the top of his lungs, and the celebrating stops.

Leia says: "Chewie, slow down.." as he stops in front of her, growling and yelling so forcefully that it blows Leia's hair.

Chewbacca drops to his knees in front of Leia and barks, growls, and whines as he animatedly points behind him toward the sky. He whines and cries, punching his fist into the ground. He whines and barks again.

Leia looks past Chewie to Rey, then to the Falcon, and back to Rey.

Rey shakes her head 'No'.

Leia nods her head and puts her arms around Chewbacca. "I'm sorry Chewie,' she says as Chewie cries-whines.

The scene fades to black and you still hear Chewie loudly crying after the fade out.

That would have been a much better scene, to me. I know it ruins the celebration, but that's all I can think that Chewie would have done. That's the Chewbacca from The Empire Strikes Back. I think it was a missed opportunity to really show the impact Han dying had on Chewbacca. And it wouldn't ruin the ending as they still leave to go find Luke.

Right as Han dies we see Leia react and fall to her chair. It's pretty clear that she felt Han die through the Froce in a Obi-Won "millions of voices called out and then were silenced" sort of way.

So what was that scene between Rey and Leia about then? And Leia still wouldn't know how it happened.

I'll have to see it again.

I just realized that there's barely anyone left to understand Chewie, apart from C3PO. Han was always his translator.

I think Rey was about to tell her but realized that she already knew.

Seeing as Han and Leia are estranged... it could be possible that Chewie is sticking up for his boy and is not really all that big a fan of Leia.

"You know hugs for old times' sake is cool but you are still that lady that kicked my best bud out and after hearing him complain about your sorry behind for a decade I don't really like you all that much. Maybe if you hadn't been such a pill then our little family would still be together"

Or as Chewie would say:

"RWARARGHRAWARARGHWARARAR"

He's still upset about the way Leia treated Mala over the video-phone on that one Life Day a few decades ago. I mean, dismissively telling her to go away and bring Han to the phone? Sheesh, Leia!

And the fact that he didn't get a medal at the end of ANH. I still think that was messed up. He risked his life just as much as Han and Luke.
