Crashed Starfleet ship in STB?

It looks exactly like the TOS Enterprise saucer rim, albeit with some softening of the top edge, which would be desirable on a full scale recreation.

Close to 50 years, here.

Okay, I think i see now what people are referring to. I didn't notice the windows underneath before because they were in shadow, which is where the underside taper would be. Yeah, I do see where this could be a TOS hull. If it's a part of the same ship as in the other photos, though, I'm still opting against it. No B/C deck housing and the TOS Connie never had that kind of "window" out of the bridge, not even the Cage version - different shape.

Now, if we're going to be seeing a planet-side starship bone yard, and all kinds of different ships will be there, anything is possible at that point. I guess we really won't know until we start seeing the matte scenes associated with the standing sets.

We've seen one ship segment built in woodlands, another amidst Dubai skyscrapers. The latter at least is a case of deliberate location shooting. It's a bit unlikely that both would aim for the same effect - why not build both sets on location, for much the same effort, or inside a studio or on its backlot, a certainly doable alternative?

That there is locationesque backdrop to both the ships seems to establish two separate locations, and probably two different ships as well. Are both "crashes"? Or do we just see standard weathering at Dubai, and the ship is supposed to have landed in an orderly (and horizontal!) fashion?

Well. The crashed Starfleet ship is the Enterprise. It seems like these swarm like little ships finish what the Narada & later the Vengeance started. Poor & brave ship. Is it time for the Enterprise-A?

Soooo...they're following the formula again:

1) World threatening super villian
2) Khaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
3) Destroy the 1701
4) Time travel and the 170-A

But given how compromised these writers write (2 & 3 combined in STID), I'd say we'll end STB with the launch of the 1701—or 1702 if they think they're being witty. The crashed ship, I wouldn't be surprised if it was, ends up being the 1701 tossed back through time.

^ I hope not. The Excelsior experiments started in 2284 in the prime timeline. If they're keeping the advance of time even with rl, it's only just now 2260 in the new timeline. Way too early for the Excelsior.

Source?

She was beginning trial runs, but the beginnings of the project likely go back decades.

In any case, the state of Starfleet in this version of 2260 is probably far more advanced than the Excelsior was as of the prime 2285. There may be a ship or even a class with that name, but I'd be surprised if it had anything to do (visually or otherwise) with the prime timeline's Excelsior.

I have no issues with them blowing up the E if they want to.

I just wish the poor girl would get a chance to actually fight back for once.

I'm calling it! :p

The USS Enterprise is sent out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a Federation starship, somewhere in an unexplored section of space...

This is the wreckage they find, on an unexplored planet, finding no trace of the crew...

Mystery, intrigue and action ensue!

:bolian: Huzzah!!!!!!

Actually, based on the brief trailer, it looks like the Enterprise, asteroids, and likely others were dragged to this planet. Probably another Federation ship got caught as well.

The next ship will be a cooler ship named Enterprise. :)

Yep. Assuming the next movie comes out in 2019, it will have been 10 (Earth!) years since the nuEnt was introduced. Seems like a good time for a re-design (recall TMP also came out 10 years after TOS ended).

Might be the U.S.S. Franklin. Spock is wearing a jacket in the trailer with a USS Franklin patch on his shoulder.

After this one they have to go back in time to get some Taco Bell or something. Then they can get a new ship. :techman:

Praxis is already destroyed and you're complaining it's too early for the Excelsior? Hell, wasn't there a ship named Excelsior in STID?

Actually, this got me thinking, weren't there images of Starfleet officers wearing uniforms with Yorktown patches? What do you suppose they're actually going to go with that popular fanon idea the Enterprise A was a renamed Yorktown?

Yes, although it was a design conceptualized as far back as Star Trek 09, with its trippy burgundy paint job. I wonder what junior officers pissed off some Admiral to get the shit job of painting an entire starship like that.

No, it was made of Vulcan ore. Don't you read the technical analysis sites?
