Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I know there was a poor reception for the Enterprise-C when it came out. I just noticed that it's one of the Hallmark ornaments for this year (with lights). I'm curious if anyone considers the Eaglemoss one better or the Hallmark one.

The Hallmark one is technically more accurate, although the details that are there are quite soft and cartoony.

The Eaglemoss one is a well made model - but it's physically wrong in every dimension and lacks details/wrong details everywhere.

I guess I'd lean on the hallmark one by virtue of it being designed by someone who has actually looked at the Enterprise-C.

I am also confused as to Ben and Eaglemoss' stance on fan-interest in shuttles, space-stations, and space-entities. I want Spacedock & V'Ger. I'm hoping shuttles prove popular enough to warrant another set later. I know I'm interested in the Enterprise Shuttlepod, the STV Galileo, TNG Type-7, and VOY Type-8.

Agreed. I'm also hoping for the Enterprise Shuttle from Insurrection.

^ I'm hoping for anything from Insurrection! (I know the reason is because they've had trouble accessing the CGI files for the Son'a ships)

Well, except the holoship, really don't care about a model for that. It would be a little bland IMO.

Just got the confirmation email this morning for the Saber and TOS Rom BOP. Should arrive within the next couple of days for US folks.

Agreed. It's basically a box with greebles. There are so many other more interesting ships they could do.

Just got my email for Issues #56 and #57...the Saber class and the 23rd Century TOS (2260s...I assume it's the TOS version) Romulan Bird of Prey.

As for the shuttles? I doubt I'll buy those. For their price and their smaller size, I doubt I'll bite on those. Hell, I really didn't need the Delta Flyer. The Runabout was a bit different though, as it's actually a small ship with it relatively large crew area behind the cockpit.

i love the runabout, one of the big disappointments from eaglemoss is that it didn't include any paneling detail, especially since the micro machine managed.

I want more shuttles, especially the one from Enterprise, because it's the shuttle that was used most. and would like several others. But I do understand that price point is quite high. and for myself, I have three subscriptions, I am only getting one shuttle pack.

I finally managed to get the Akira and Steamrunner ordered off Eaglemoss here in the UK - had to phone them up to make sure these hadn't been placed on the in stock list by accident like on Black Friday.

While I'm waiting for them to arrive, I've noticed something about the windows on the Akira class (not the ones by the deflector dish) - the windows on the saucer section appear to be larger/taller compared to the rows lining the long pylons stretching across the saucer and to the weapons pod and nacelles. It just looks...odd, or even wrong. The window sizes between those two sections of the ship just seem disproportionate to one another. Or, is it just me? Am I missing something here?

If you look at the E-D it's the same way. It has to do with the angle of the hull in that area. The angle is close to horizontal in the saucer, so you can have longer windows to fit the entire inside wall of a particular room. The angle of the secondary hull on the E-D (and the "outriggers" of the Akira) is more vertical, so less surface area is available on the wall for windows, so they're shorter. They probably exaggerated it unnecessarily in some places in error, but I believe that's the general idea behind it.

I pulled my Akira and Steamrunner off the shelf to take a look. Yeah, looking at it now, they might be a bit disproportionate, but the ship, as a whole, looks so nice, it doesn't really bother me.

The Steamrunner's okay, but not quite as good. It had a rather glaring seam line running across the engineering section and deflector (though not nearly as bad as the one on the Tholian ship), but that's not the main problem:

Like most of the Fed ships, the saucer section is mostly metal, making the ship very front-heavy. This isn't a problem for most of them, because they have the stand clip on to the saucer or pretty close. The Steamrunner's stand attaches to the struts that connect engineering to the nacelles at the very back, which has led to this ship falling over a LOT. (It's also, admittedly, not my favorite Fed design.)

Today was like christmas three different orders from Eaglemoss coming on the same day, with me only expecting two.

Shuttles, check and everything in order.

4 previously released ones that for numerous reasons I needed new copies of (i.e., the Dog).

My order of 4 new ships to catch me back up to the rest of the US after the mix up with the new US data transfer.

And the Kelvin (the only ship that had any issues to it, and something glue should be able to fix up), and all but the four to catch me up to the rest of the US Subscribers purchased with the Black friday discount.

Just looking at my micro machines (or what's left of them). There is still a surprising number of ships that we have micro machine versions that we don't have from Eaglemoss.

from what I still have (so no idea what I no longer have, and I didn't have a full set, close, but not full).

Space Dock, damn it.
K-7, Damn it
Romulan scout Ship, from TNG Defector. I also really want this ship.
Karan's Pirate Ship from TNG's Gambit 2 parter. Didn't think too much of this, but after seeing pictures of the model from the auction. It has plenty of detail (yes it's technically a DS9 Miradorn Ship, but wasn't featured heavily in DS9's vortex).

The Saratoga, from DS9, the Emissary, an obvious redress of the Miranda, minus the roll bar. Not anything I am in a hurry for, as the Miranda had several redresses.

The T'Lani cruiser from DS9's Armageddon Game. This is s hip' that been redressed many time, this is the 4th or 5th version. i would choose this or use the Tamarian cruiser in TNG's Darmok, where it was all memorable.

The Cardassian Kheldon class. i would like to see this redress, but I wasn't that impressed with the Galor that I don't know if it would be worth it.

The Karemma cruiser from DS9 Starship down, is also a must in my opinion. It is another ship that has been used and redressed as other ships. This is probably the most popular?

Kazan Raider (which we saw the most often), the Kazon Carrier (massive ship we saw I think in three episodes), and a smaller Kazon ship (have no idea what it is), and the Kazon Warhead. Out of these I think they need to do at least one Kazon Ship. I lean towards either the carrier, or the more commonly shown Raider.

The last is the Numiri Ship from VOY, Ex Post Facto, which was a redress of Husnock ship that has been used in many, many episodes. This would not be my choice. Ben has suggested he would like to make the Smuggler Ship from Unification, which is one of the versions of this ship.

There was also several shuttles made, but I am not holding my breathe on those getting made.

but very surprised that we are near 60 ships and that there are still so many micro machines that haven't made it to the collection.

Actually, it's not that surprising, given that there's been a whole lot of ships introduced since then. The last Micro Machines were introduced around 1996, so there was a whole bunch of seasons of DS9 and Voyager, the entire run of Enterprise, and five movies' worth of ships to cover.

I'm pretty sure the only reason we got Klaestron and Numiri ships is that they'd already covered all the "hero" ships, most of the established Fed ships, and most ships from the major alien races, so a few obscure ones were chosen to fill out the set. Eaglemoss doesn't have that problem.

And frankly, I myself, for the most part, am drawn to the ships that I don't have in Micro Machine, Johnny Lightning, or Furuta form, with some exceptions, due to ships I have from those other lines either being broken (JL Voyager lost a nacelle) or not looking that good (Furuta Defiant).

Some of those ships you mentioned might be nice to see, like the Romulan scout or the Miradorn, but there's still a lot of ships that have never been done before that I'd still like to see have priority:

-The Merchantman
-The Jenolen
-The Groumall
-The Klingon D5
-Xindi Reptilian
-Degra's ship
-Jem'Hadar battleship

I am not interested in Kazon ships. I got enough of them when I got my hands on the third MM set last year.

The Kelvin! Whoot! It's about time that one started popping up...

Damn! Both Jein and Okuda working on these models for Eaglemoss? I think they've already been using a bunch of Doug Drexler's meshes for the renders and interviews by Adam Buckner. All they need now is Gary Hutzel and they have the model-maker's dream team working on these. I can do without the "significant Delta Quadrant ships", personally, but I'll take them if it also means we might see more of the lesser-known Wolf 359 and DS9 Fed frankenfleet ships.

Really hoping they don't waste their time with the Eymorg dildo rocket, though...

Managed to get my hands on the Norway-Class (#61) which is out today in the UK. Gorgeous ship, the use of all the red and yellow markings on it really make it stand out. And feels so great to finally all the four new First Contact fleet ships! :) well, five if you count the Enterprise-E

Next up is Gegan's ship from VOY: Distant Origin which I'm not sure about yet, I wanna wait to see some subscibers pics first. Although it will be out in two weeks as well, which is Christmas Eve, and not sure I can really be bothered barging through all the crowds just to get it too! And then after that is the Antares, which I think I'll definitely be giving a miss, one of the ugliest ship I've ever seen IMO.

Great news about the extension to 110 issues, which means even if it does evend there we're only a bit past halfway through yet. I do wish they'd hurry and annouce what issues 71-75 are gonna be, seems ages since we've had an update.
(Although we already know #73 is the Decent Borg ship)

The little purple Kazon Micro Machine ship was an early version of the Kazon shuttle. The decided to add all the fins and extra details after the initial mockup, and as I understand it had some sort of piece they put over the large windows with rows of smaller windows to make the Kazon Raider.

Yeah, I got mine too.
