Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

They have been able to put ships back into stock every couple of months in the UK/Ireland store. Only DS9 has been consistently out of stock.

Btw, got the shuttles, Budapest and Botany Bay. Had thought they were December issues.

They have been able to put ships back into stock every couple of months in the UK/Ireland store. Only DS9 has been consistently out of stock.

That isn't the issue - the issue is that they've gone and placed items that are out of stock on the in stock lists, so people are going to try and order items that are clearly not in stock as per my telephone conversation with Eaglemoss. For some reason the discount is now applying - I just tried as an experiment - but given what customer service clearly told me, I have no reason to believe those two ships are anymore in stock now than they were Friday afternoon.

I also haven't seen the Enterprise E come back into stock over the past several months while many other issues have come back in and gone out of stock multiple times. Same for the Defiant (it looked like it came back into stock in September, but then it very quickly went back out of stock - faster than the other issues - and hasn't been available since, so I presume it was accidentally placed in stock).

It's possible that's because of the 3-packs that are being released of late.

How long as it been since we heard upcoming ships for the main list. Feels like it's been a couple months.

(This thread was about to fall of the main page!)

Activity here has been slow. There's not the usual monthly bevvy of "where's my shipment" posts that I'm used to seeing. :D

Not yet, but my CC was just charged the usual amount this morning for 2 issues, so I suspect we should be seeing them mid-late next week sometime.

I want my Borg cube dag-nabbit!!

I called about a week ago and they said its out of stock. Well, ok, but c'mon I should have gotten that a year ago

My comic shop got #56 (the Saber) in last week, here in the States. I had also ordered #55 (the D'kyr), but my shop owner called Diamond, and it is apparently coming later.

Just received the shuttle package (on the exact day they said it would be shipped out to US customers) and they are very nicely done. Yes they are small but nice detail and I really like the stand-up "display screens." They make a nice backdrop for each of them. The one drawback is that they just sit on top of their stands and are not attached in anyway. Don't bump your shelf or they might fall off.

Yep just got mine today too. They are really good looking models but the Galileo is a curiosity. Its aft landing gear arrived busted, which wasn't a big deal - nothing that some super-glue couldn't handle, but the stem is extremely thin and the gear plate itself is absurdly huge and very much out of proportion for the rest of the model. The oddity there is that the gear on the ortho pics in the little magazine looks correct and proportionately sized. I always thought these models were created using the meshes rendered in the mags. That didn't appear to be the case here. Either way, not a big problem.

All the shuttles are about 2 - 2.5 inches long. And yes, the translucent MSD cards that come with them are a cool touch.

Correct. The models are not necessarily based on the mesh in the magazine. For an obvious example, compare the pylons of the NCC-1701-C.

I'm getting pissed.

First off, never got an e-mail about the shuttles. Just, nothing. I saw when they came out for the UK on Twitter, but did anyone else USA hear anything?

Secondly, the price of the shuttles - WTF?! Especially since they're smaller than normal!

Thirdly, the dedication plaques - when did they stop being subscriber gifts? When did subscribers start getting royally shafted and spit on?

I got a charge the other day for my next two ships - which is also pissing me off as I never got my Saber last month, and was told it would come this month.

What is going on?! :klingon:

I wasn't aware that the plaques weren't separate things either. That is strange.

BTW, I never got any emails about the shuttles, I just saw others talking about it here and placed the order as soon as they were available at the special discount.

All the things you mention are symptoms of a greater communication problem, which has always been an issue with them. When problems arise, they are always quite diligent in responding to user requests. However, many situations that have arisen could have been avoided if they had been more proactive with that communication. They've been too passive, only when customers go to them. Outside standard invoices, communication with them has largely been mono-directional.

I assume they never charged you for the saber last month? If so then you are getting the saber and one other ship.

When I had the issue with the US data center screwing up each of my subscriptions, I got partial order. I obviously wanted the next one and the next two. But they are not authorized by anything approved by the customers to charge for three ships at once.

So they can't just do that in mass.

And no I didn't hear anything about the shuttles, for the US. Though they are just now supposed to be being released (Big grain of salt on that), very, very few Britons got the shuttles within the first 2 weeks off their "release" the vast bulk waiting over a month after their "Release" before they started getting delivered.

the one drawback about just finding out about them is that they had a deal around Black Friday to lessen the cost.

As for the cost itself. Not knowing how many are being made, in relationship to a typical ship, really makes it hard to even hazard a guess how much the cost could have been lowered if they had produced a regular sized run.

Still can't believe Ben thinks most buyers aren't interested in shuttles, let alone his feeling that very few people would want space stations included....Ughhh!

I'm amazed how little problems I've had with Eaglemoss as a US subscriber. They haven't really messed anything of mine up. Heck, after I purchased the shuttles off of the US website (with the discount code) I was informed the shuttles would not be released until December 5th, I got them on the 5th.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought only the E-D plaque was going to be a free subscriber gift? The free gifts were the E-D dedication plaque, the first magazine binder, the AGT E-D, and the light-up Borg Cube?

I am also confused as to Ben and Eaglemoss' stance on fan-interest in shuttles, space-stations, and space-entities. I want Spacedock & V'Ger. I'm hoping shuttles prove popular enough to warrant another set later. I know I'm interested in the Enterprise Shuttlepod, the STV Galileo, TNG Type-7, and VOY Type-8.

I, too, have been largely satisfied with the subscription. Aside from the one data center glitch from a couple months back that affected everyone, I really have no complaints.

To reiterate from my previous post, however, I DO think they should be more proactive in their communication to their customers instead of their current passive business model, where they only react to customer complaints when something goes wrong.

Case in point: the fore-mentioned data center switch-over. Pretty much everyone's orders in the US got munged because of it (was this the case in other regions like Oz or Canada?). I suspect that their client base is, on the whole, a relatively understanding and, possibly, tech-savvy majority. I would hazard to guess that, if they informed us in a mass-email that this migration was going to happen and we might experience a month or two disruption in shipments, they wouldn't have nearly as many pissed-off people that they did.

Now come the shuttles. Nobody here got an email saying, "come and get 'em!" We fortunate few here who knew they were made available through word of mouth, plus that handy discount code (which worked) got it out of a mixture of sheer luck and a rabid fanaticism about checking these forums for the latest news on a minute-by-minute basis. Additional rabid fanaticism about starship designs help increase those odds, but there can still be windows of missed opportunity due to lack of customer awareness. To make these things fly off the shelves even more, offer additional discounts to loyal subscribers. That's how you run a business! You might take in less in the short run, but in the long run you're likely to see more units. None of it will happen unless you let people know what's going on!

This is not a good way to maintain customer relationships. If the models and magazines weren't so damn good, I think they would be in trouble. If they would just improve their active communication to help maintain customer expectations, I think it would go a long way to helping out their bottom line.

I'm curious - to the UK members here - do most Brit-based companies operate like this? I can't see how it would get them too far to be this stone-walled and tight-lipped to their customers here in the 'States. I also remember back in the beginning that they charged our cards several weeks in advance of the corresponding shipment, which is a no-no in modern American consumerism and flirts dangerously close to throwing up a red flag as an indicator of potential credit card fraud. Now, this was fixed in the first few months after what I'm assuming were a large number of customer complaints, but I'm curious how it was allowed to happen in the first place. Is this a cultural thing for UK businesses that we're just not clicking with?

Re:Japanese Borg Cube Petition

From what I recall, Eaglemoss requires a minimum of 5,000 signatures to even consider a special issue (remember the Titan?). This in mind, I put my name to this petition (Thanks for the link).

Edit: Weird... despite clicking "Quote" it failed to include. Hmm. <shrug>

As i Understand it, only the Enterprise-D plaque was a subscriber gift. They have supposedly made others for sale, but I haven't seen any as of yet here in the US.

I remember someone commenting that one of the social media sites showed that there were more hints as to what the next upcoming models would be, but then I never heard anything since. That was weeks ago.

I know there was a poor reception for the Enterprise-C when it came out. I just noticed that it's one of the Hallmark ornaments for this year (with lights). I'm curious if anyone considers the Eaglemoss one better or the Hallmark one.
