Speaking of Iron Fist, it looks like we've finally got some positive movement on that front. Marvel has hired Scott Buck, a writer/producer for both Dexter and Six Feet Under, to be the showrunner for Iron Fist.
To me, this implies that Danny has only just recently returned to New York. I wonder if they're going to structure the show similar to how Arrow did, with the main plot unfolding in the present, interrupted occasionally by flashbacks to Danny's time in K'un Lun.Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
Cool. I wonder if they were just waiting to get Jessica Jones out there before making a bunch of Iron Fist announcements. I'm sure Marvel and Netflix would much rather have everyone talking about a show currently available rather than a show that's not even in production yet.
and nothing says he needs to be white.
I still think it would be cool if they cast an Asian American to play Danny. I definitely agree that the "white savior" aspect behind the comic book character's origin is distasteful.
Not really. His father, Wendell Rand, was a self-made wealthy entrepreneur, and his mother, Heather, was a socialite.I'm glad to finally get some solid news on Iron Fist. I was wondering about the racial stuff too. My only familiarity with the character is from his appearance on Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Is there anything in his comic book backstory that would require him to be white?
Cast a Eurasian. If we can have a Eurasian Superman, we can certainly have a Eurasian Iron Fist.
Isn't it just as limiting a thought process to say they should get an Asian guy to play the mystical martial artist? Everything seems to come down to ticking boxes and keeping tallies these days.

I'm not quite sure where the idea of Danny being a "white savior" comes from, the people of K'un-L'un aren't Asian.
