Star Trek Continues final Kickstarter???

I think CBS understand that if they come down too hard, they risk making the fans really angry. They realize, perhaps, that these fan productions aren't coming out every week and aren't a real threat to their official stuff.

CBS isn't concerned with the feelings of fans who follow Star Trek fan productions. Hell, once the new series is out and available, I can guarantee you'll have the usual split of existing Star Trek fans who love it, hate it, and then the brand new fans who like it and have it as their intro into the 'world' of Star Trek.

Any decisions CBS makes or caries out with regard to fan films (and I'm not in any way predicting they will or won't do something down the road) will be made as a strictly bottom line business/legal decision; and done because they want to protect the Star Trek IP and Licencing/Merchandising of the Star Trek IP.

And if they do make a full 13 Episodes at the current, 2 per year pace, then, we won't see the "Finale" until early 2019.... That's a lot of time making star trek for free for the cast and crew....

Is it 2 per year or 3 per year? When was the first episode filmed? Episode 6 will be out in the Spring as previously stated. Is that production schedule more of a limitation of cast/crew availability or does it have to do with the studio limitations?

Last year, and this, it's been two releases per calendar year....

ST:C now owns the studios in Kingsland, so it's more or less a limitation of the production crew and staff.... Generally the shoots take a week, from my understanding, then the episode goes into post...

But the cast and crew are all volunteers, so you kind of have to work on their schedule... and their ability to gather in South GA for a week or so.

^yup. Latest stint was a 12 day shoot (plus a day off). Not to mention there's been a new set required for every episode so far, so the breaks are needed for construction.

It could be quite expensive to mount a post TMP style production for a glimpse into a second 5-year mission, though it would be fascinating to see.

As much as I admire what STC are doing, I'd love to see fanfilms set in some of the other periods (TMP, TNG - well, maybe not so much :), DS9, etc, etc).

Something that I've wanted to see for a long time is a properly epic TOS movie with the original Enterprise.

Maybe a two part episode or maybe a 3 episode story arc. ;)

I could maybe see a two part episode happening, since that was done with The Menagerie. Story arcs weren't something introduced until TNG, so doing that would be anachronistic for the approach STC utilizes.

Unless I'm mistaken, they've already had characters mentioning things that happened in previous episodes, which is also unusual for TOS. If they have an arc that they want to do and can do well, I say bring it on. It certainly won't be any more jarring than that Coleman cooler sitting out for all to see in the Civil War encampment!

(To anyone involved in the production who might be reading: no, it didn't "ruin the episode" as far as I'm concerned or anything crazy like that. It actually almost slipped right by my attention in what Douglas Adams referred to as a "Somebody Else's Problem Field". I'm just ribbing you. :D )

Something akin to Batman '66, I think he means. A full feature-length story, released to theaters in the summer between seasons, using the show's existing assets plus a couple of extra things a tiny movie budget could spring for. Or a TV movie that could be released to theaters overseas.

Maybe their best episode. Now I have to watch it for a 3rd time  As for TOS mentioning things happening in previous episodes (or lack there of) i wonder if that was more a factor of the way it was made? Were not some episodes filmed and then shown out of sequence with the filming schedule?

It did happen occasionally, though. In addition to the two Harry Mudd episodes, we got Koloth's mention of the Organian peace treaty and Turnabout Intruder's shoehorned-in references to The Tholian Web and The Empath.

I believe it happened also in "By Any Other Name" when they refer to when Spock tricked the guard on Eminiar 7 into thinking they were in the midst of escaping.
