STC Episode 6 (news and speculation)....

I'd like to see a shuttle craft mock up that can be rolled onto the planet set.

Things I'd like to see using what was possible in the '60s (and not just on TOS) as a baseline.

A shuttlecraft landing/take-off. Given what we saw on Lost In Space and Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea back in the day we could/should have seen an exterior shot of a shuttlecraft landing on (or taking off from) a planet surface. Given a nice cgi (or physical model) of the shuttlecraft then this can easily be done today.

In extent we should be able to see nice shots of a Klingon battle cruiser or a Romulan Bird of Prey, if a future story ever calls for one. If I understand correctly the original Klingon and Romulan miniatures were small-ish (relative to the TOS E 11 footer) and they were static miniatures without internal lighting. But given time and money we could have seen something more animated. Now given the magic Doug Drexler has weaved with the Enterprise I've no doubt he could show us an equally awesome Klingon or Romulan warship, and painted as they were originally as opposed to the disappointments of what was seen in TOS-R. (I'm hearing the combat music from "Elaan Of Troyius" in my head as I type this :) )

What is the Planet Set? A generic surface with a couple of exterior buildings, Styrofoam Rocks (TM), a village?
A possible approach, which would be a small departure from "authentic TOS" might be to incorporate a small standardized landing platform for the shuttlecraft mockup or miniature that can be placed on the surface of the planet set.

We have some nice shuttlecraft shots in our upcoming episode "The Holiest Thing." Here's a little VFX reel from Tobias Richter and The Light Works. It shows some of the VFX for both "The Holiest Thing" (our 11th full-length episode) and "Bread and Savagery."

What about sets of locations aboard ship we never got to see during TOS? Certainly it would only make sense to build such sets only if they were really needed for a particular story. During TOS specific sets seen were actually redresses of existing sets whenever possible.
I'm still waiting to see the bowling alley.

I love that top down view of the Enterprise and enemy ship facing off in orbit. The way they move in relation to the planet is awesome.

It'll be a bittersweet day when STC comes to an end. I've been enthusiastically following the series since I found it earlier this year, and I wish it could continue indefinitely. Since that's not practical, however, it's a good thing to go out while the iron is still hot. I'll definitely be onboard for the final Kirkstarter!

I just watched STC's latest video announcing their forthcoming Kirkstarter 3.0 and that it will also be their "final" Kickstarter drive. Vic talks a proper ending to the 5-year mission.

I don't like the sound of that. Are they really closing up shop sometime in 2016?

What could have happened to bring this about? Did perhaps CBS send out a quiet word that they had until the end of 2016 to wrap things up?

This is rather bummer news.

Star Trek Continues (from their FB page):
Quite frankly, we HATE asking our fans for money! We plan to have one more big fundraiser to cover the rest of our episodes and complete the mission. That way we can focus on what we do best - making great Trek! There will be many episodes yet to come.

What does this mean?

James Kerwin:
Please stay positive! This is not an end, not by a long shot. As stated above, we simply want to ask for one big lump sum so that we can continue for years to come, without having to continue going back to donors over and over again. Barring unforeseen circumstances, of course, the ending is a long ways away.

Wow! What kind of sum are they looking for?

The words used in that post also seem to suggest that they haven't been told to wrap things up within the forseeable future. Does that mean CBS won't have a problem with fan productions continuing even while CBS' own official series is in production and being aired?

A lot of it will probably depend on what era, and potentially what cast(characters, not actors), the new CBS show will use. Any fan production that duplicates either one will be seen as potential competition, and will then be in consideration for a cease and desist.

The fan productions in general terms are free advertising, on the other hand. Fan productions bring attention, and that can be used to generate interest in the official productions.

As for "bringing closure to the five year mission", Vic has said in the past that he wants to play Kirk until he can no longer plausibly pass for the TOS era Kirk. Once he looks his age, he said he might consider doing movie era stories, if the rest of the cast is interested. I just hope they'll take the interest of the fans into consideration as well. I'd love to see some "between" stories, or even an attempt at a real post-TMP, pre-TWOK series.

Man, I don't even want to think about the size of the Kickstarter you'd need just to recreate the TMP bridge, let alone the rest of the refit Enterprise sets...

In the interest of keeping this thread on-topic I've started a new thread specifically for the Kickstarter subject.

From Doug Drexler's FB page.

Just wanted to say that Vic Mignogna stopped by last night, and we went thru dailies from the next Star Trek: Continues that just wrapped! Simply wow! You guys are going to love it. Wish I could say more! Stand by for episode 6!

Hmm... Are we gonna see some old school starship combat? Man, I can hear the battle music from "Elaan Of Troyius" and "The Doomsday Machine" going through my head just imagining the possibilities.

Chris Doohan enters his office for the first time .
