Shatnerverse is kick-ass when you are a teenager, when you are in your late 30s/early 40s, not so much.
How about if you're co-writing them when you're in your 60s?

With me, I loved The Return the first time I read it when I was 12. Not so much when I re-read it at 18.

Those novels started coming out when I was 25, and I liked them well enough (there were better books at the time though), so I'm not sure where I fall in the above description.

This. If you like the new Trek movies, you'll probably like the Shatnerverse. It's loud, brash, silly and fun.The Shatnerverse are the popcorn blockbusters of Treklit.
Does anybody have any idea why Ashes of Eden, The Return, and Avenger aren't available as e-books, but all the rest of the books in the series are? I would think if it was some kind of specific issue it would affect the whole series, not just that first trilogy.
