Will You Pay for Star Trek?

Will You Pay for CBS All Access to Watch Star Trek?

It'll likely be awhile before we know who is going to get the rights in Canada. Besides Netflix (which we subscribe to) there are two other streaming services available. Crave is a service owned by Bell and Shomi (pronounced 'show me') is owned jointly by Rogers and Shaw. I'll be surprised if it ends up on a regular cable channel.

I pay for Star Trek since the mid 90's when I stopped watching it on TV and started to rent UK import VHS in Germany and later bought all the series on DVDs. I pay for every episode I watch since 20 years (because in Germany only the dubbed version is free on TV, you get the english original only on rented or bought media).

I will be paying for the first month of the new Star Trek, if I like it I will continue to pay for it. I really don't see a big deal in paying for content that I enjoy, in fact I am happy to support programming that is well done. This IS the future, folks, $4.99 is not an unreasonable price. When Trek is between seasons I will likely not subscribe much like I do for Game of Thrones.

I think many out there a bit premature to already be declaring that you certainly won't be paying or watching. We know so little right now and I think as fans we should be celebrating the return of Trek to its proper format, as a TV show (in streaming form). Let's not get ahead of ourselves and just enjoy for now.

It's Trek. Good or bad, I'll be paying for it. One of the few things I've been committed to, regardless of quality.

Are they doing any sort of free airing of the pilot or do you have to subscribe just watch the first episode? If the pilot was good then maybe I would, but I am hesitant to spend that money on a show that is not awesome.

this way we don't have to worry about ratings
Ultimately the equivalent of "ratings" will matter. CBS isn't going to continue to produce a show that isn't drawing enough viewers.

On the OP's question, the pilot that CBS is going to (as I understand it) show for free on the network will be a prime determining factor, also previews, interviews and general internet buzz.
but there is not as much risk this way we are not at the mercy of the mainstream people that is how I am looking at this

Trek Addict.
I am a Sci-Fi & Fantasy Junkie myself :techman:

I love Star Trek, but I'm not married to it. I can see other franchises. :)

(There's a "paying for it" joke to be had here, but I think I'll let the opportunity pass.)

The alternative is to be at the mercy of the fans, who will loudly despise a show for the slightest lapse in continuity or taste, and who can't agree on anything. :scream:

"Mainstream people" are not the enemy. STAR TREK has never been just for us hardcore Trekkies.

Nor should it be.

that's not what I meant I am kind of a casual Trekkie myself TNG, ENT and New Trek are my Treks but this way is less risky then broadcast not as many mainstream people are needed to be successful IMHO Netflix changed the game of entertainment viewing it does have some competition which is good as a whole keeping prices down
