STC Episode 6 (news and speculation)....

You're right, I'm thinking of the Warp Core from TMP, there's a fp matte painting on the floor.

Forgive the pendantry, but what you're referring to isn't a matte painting, but rather just a painting. A matte painting is used as part of an optical effect, where the painting is on glass with voids in it for live action to be composited in during post production. You're describing a painted backdrop that's right there on the set. :)
nitpicker
The 'power tube thing' (or whatever it's official name was), was an actual forced perspective set piece behind the grill work, not a rendering. It shifts angles when you see it during the engineering scenes and is shown on the TOS set diagrams/wall hang reference used at the time.

I think it is so cool that it has been faithfully recreated in this new Engineering set-

Anyone care to guess when Ep. 6 might show up?

I suspect it won't be by the end of this year, although I'd like to be wrong. I think we might have heard rumblings to that effect by now.

So I'm guessing sometime in February, 2016 or maybe March.

In fact didn't STC premiere an episode in February before?

My understanding is that last year they filmed the on ship scenes for 4 and 5 during the same period. I wonder if they'll do the same thing for 6 and 7? Are they that organized to have 7 ready as well?

I remember that scene but I never knew it his character was based on anything before-

-“Now that was cool, getting to resurrect Paladin, a character that Gene Roddenberry had written 25 scripts for in the late fifties, and early sixties. Especially to do a crossover between two worlds of Gene Roddenberry, HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL meets Star Trek.

“Almost anyone who knew me knew that I was a Have Gun Will Travel geek, and it occurred to me that maybe they thought that might weaken my resolve as far as VFX. ‘If you think it’s going to get me to do the visual effects, I’m not doing it. I’M NOT!’ But yeah, I wanted to do the cameo, I had the entire Paladin outfit, everything is authentic. Baron Hats of Hollywood who made Richard Boone’s hat, custom made mine. Alfonso’s Gunleather of Hollywood who made the original holster with a silver chess piece. I even had the shirts tailor made from an original I had gotten a hold of. Really cool, with a mandarin collar and all. The six inch single action army Colt. You couldn’t get any closer.”

Which antennae are you wanting, TOS or ENT?

Might be cool to find some middle ground. Say, they move some (not as much as ENT), but are farther back on the head.

If you're going to be faithful to TOS as iswas in the day then you use the TOS design for Andorians.

Or you man up and understand that not everything need be 100% accurate 100% of the time.
No. Given their general approach you stick with the original.

Some years ago, when we had to depict the Andorian commander of the U.S.S. Eagle, we went Old School. (The scene is actually a flashback to eight years ago when the Eagle was commandeered.) So it had to be Cage-era uniforms and such.

Here is Vic as our Andorian commander from "Enemy: Starfleet!"

The best thing about ENT is the way the Andorians and their homeworld were depicted. It's just natural that they would come from an Ice world. I actually wouldn't mind STC visiting their planet and seeing some ENT-style Andorians.

It would be quite a makeup challenge to depict very many Andorians. Maybe easier to bring one representative on board rather than going to the planet and showing scores of Andorian citizens.

Maybe a couple of Andorians with an attitude? They should consider Andoria for their first use of the Planet Set. :)

I have to say, I hate the name Andoria. For thirty-five years all things Trek called the Andorians' homeworld Andor, and then ENT goes and calls it Andoria. Bleah. Sounds like Charles Emerson Winchester's other sister.

I never caught that ENT did that.

Blech is right.

Meh. This is such a minor and nearly irrelevant nitpick that I don't let it bother me. Either way - the people who worked on the shows and had every right to make the choice made the decision to use "Andoria."

Do you guys likewise get up in arms over the fact that Star Trek VI called it "Qo'nos" well after TNG established it was called "Kling" in "Heart of Glory" ? Or that DS9 called them "Bajorans" even though Picard called them "the Bajora" in "Ensign Ro" ?

Even Spock was a "Vulcanian" for a bit. Nobody seems to lose their shit over that.
