STC Episode 6 (news and speculation)....

Meh. This is such a minor and nearly irrelevant nitpick that I don't let it bother me. Either way - the people who worked on the shows and had every right to make the choice made the decision to use "Andoria."

Do you guys likewise get up in arms over the fact that Star Trek VI called it "Qo'nos" well after TNG established it was called "Kling" in "Heart of Glory" ? Or that DS9 called them "Bajorans" even though Picard called them "the Bajora" in "Ensign Ro" ?

Even Spock was a "Vulcanian" for a bit. Nobody seems to lose their shit over that.
It is minor. The appearance of an Andiriaan would matter more in a TOS faithful fan production than the name of the planet.

In fairness the name of the Andorian planet was never referenced in TOS. The home star could be called Andor and the planet Andoria. Or the homestar could be something entirely different. We call our planet Earth rather than Sol III even though our home star is called Sol. We call ourselves Human even though SF aliens often refer to us a Earthers or Terrans. No one ever refers to us as Solians.

SF often takes this shortcut where the inhabitants of a planet have a name (as a species) derived from the name of the planet itself and/or the aliens' home star.

In all of televised Trek have we never heard the name of Vulcan's home star? Not that I recall. We only heard Spock refer to "the Vulcan sun." We accept that Vulcan applies to the name of the planet as well as referring to the inhabitants. And the practice has extended practically to every other race we've seen in Trek. But a touch of realism would try for something at least a bit more varied.

Maybe the name of the Tellerite home sun would translate to "That fucking bright thing in the sky"

Perhaps Earth naming conventions can serve as points of reference.

- Tunis is a city in the country of Tunisia.
- Jersey City is a city in the state of New Jersey.
- Indianapolis is a city in the state of Indiana.
- Mexico City is a city in the country of Mexico.

Or perhaps not, since these are aliens who shouldn't be expected to think like humans. :vulcan:

The fact that you didn't watch Enterprise isn't my problem. You claimed the name of Vulcan's star was never mentioned on screen. I corrected you.

We didn't hear it, no. But it was used in star charts seen on Star Trek Enterprise. That's good enough for me.
And? There's a lot of ENT I never bothered with so what was it called?

From Memory Alpha:

"It had not been canonically established that 40 Eridani A is the location of Vulcan, until a draft of Geoffrey Mandel's Book Star Trek: Star Charts was used in various ENT episodes which shows the location of "Vulcan (40 Eridani A)."

Thanks. Yes. I know about 40 Eridani, but that's the name we use to refer to that star. I hardly think Vulcans would refer to their home sun as 40 Eridani.

Wow, that takes me back to reading James Blish. It was in his first Star Trek volume, I think, that he explained in a parenthetical that Vulcan was [from memory] "not the mythical solar planet of that name, but a planet of 40 Eridani."

Speaking of Vulcans, judging by Todd Haberkorn's statement at the beginning of this video, they should be in the middle of shooting episodes 6 and 7 even as we speak.

Spock actor being slowly destroyed by Hot Peppers!

Why was this so funny to me? Had to watch 'til the end. Clearly I have issues.

Pepper Schadenfreude happenin' here.

Re: Continues Filming Starting soon-

After all that construction on the Engine Room, no doubt they were completely fired up to start filming.

Of course they're starting Episode 6- but do they normally film two at one time?

Oh, and while we all wait- go watch Ridley Scott's Man in the High Castle.

You're welcome in advance.

Yes, and I did hear they were filming Episodes 6 and 7 this month. Although the last Kickstarter didn't quite get them to Episode 7, Steven Dengler made a large donation to make up the difference.

If you check Chuck Huber's Twitter account, you'll see that he was at an anime convention yesterday and had no more than a 2-day growth of beard, so I would estimate that they just completed shooting on Thursday, or at least finished his scenes by then.

What a beauty!

STC just posted this image on their FB page along with a reference to an announcement to be made tomorrow (Sunday, Nov. 22) at 6pm.

This could be a staged pic, but there are some curious things about it. Firstly why are the spheres in the pic red instead of silver as they are in the previously posted image? Secondly why is there an apparently dead or injured redshirt up in the Emergency Manual Monitor? And thirdly why are there big honkin' spiders all over the engine room?

Is this a hint about the next forthcoming episode? And could the red spheres indicate we're looking at the engine room of another Constitution-class ship other than the Enterprise?

Hmm...

Educated guess says the announcement will be 6 and 7 in the can.

The Facebook entry identifies the spider photo as the TOS engine room.

If so, cool. :techman:

The Facebook entry identifies the spider photo as the TOS engine room.
Then why are the spheres red? That certainly isn't accurate.

Edit: The pic with spiders now seems to have disappeared from their FB page. The first pic I posted was originally posted on FB by Doug Drexler on his page, and he identified it as the STC Engineering set.

They must have removed that pic from their FB page. They may have replaced it with a still from "Is there No Truth in Beauty?".

It looks like a model of the set to me.

It looks like an action figure.

Is this a hint about the next forthcoming episode?

Doubtful.
