The merged and improved (?) KIC 8462852 thread

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

That is better than "not even wrong."

Now my theory about the objects occulting that star--much more realistic:

--they are obviously all Steve Spurriers old visors he flung into space.

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

OMFG... "Our sun was bigger and broke into pieces"

Is that how this works indeed?

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

So you just decided to ignore the content then and post random nonsense instead of sticking to the topic. I'm giving you a friendly warning here. Don't do that again.

No I didn't ignore your post.. I'm enjoying this thread. I just tried to make some humour regarding pasta. I'll shut up now.

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

Another idea brought up by someone at Space.com was that the dim in KIC could have been the result of a large planet with large moons orbiting around the sun. A planet the size of Jupiter with moons the size of Earth could have caused the dim. The larger dim being caused by the larger planet and the smaller dims caused by the smaller moons.

I've got it it's the worldship. We'd better run.

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

A question that was already answered in the paper by Boyajian et al. on Arvix:

https://arxiv.org/abs/1509.03622

In particular, see section 2.3 as I have pointed out previously.

Anyone aspiring to have a serious scientific discussion about KIC 8462852 should make an attempt to read this paper even if they don't understand all the technical details.

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

OK if anyone didn't figure it out the picture I posted was meant in fun. Just to clarify

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

I was reading that fusion does not create flux. Tabby's Star is said to not produce any flux. Perhaps something took place that caused KIC to stop being a fission / fusion star and is now only a fusion start due to the lack of flux present.

KIC is probably most likely a fusion star now.

Another idea is based on the processes within stars is that a layer of the KIC collapsed inwards towards its cord causing the dim to occur.

Having the flu is like being a Super Nova. At first you lose a lot of energy but then suddenly you blow the outer layers away and are ready to produce more.

No, we are not sending our chief engineer over to fix your spaceship.

I'm going to ignore this thread now as it's become very silly.

Re: Has Kepler Discovered An Alien Megastructure?

So how about we all take a break for 24 hours and see if we can save the thread afterwards.
