And Collider's BS reporting continues to linger on.

I'm not familiar with Collider...from your tone, I'm guessing they aren't a legitimate source of info? I saw the link I posted among the results of a news search for Netflix. There were multple entries on the PR relocation. Looks like they also used Collider as their source.

Not on this. The 'info' you posted a link to - as well as the things they'd 'reported' regarding the new film - was fed to them by an Internet Troll and is 150% fake.

Today's Dino Charge episode was a bit disappointing. It was a reminder of the early seasons where the Rangers had a perfect friendship and only came into conflict when put under a magic spell. Later seasons, including this one, have generally been better about giving the Rangers distinct personalities and disagreements that arise from them organically. And it wouldn't have been so bad if there had been a character-based solution to the "broken bonds" thing -- like maybe when the Rangers saw each other in danger, their innate compassion and need to help would've provided the stimulus for reforming their bonds of friendship in a way that the formulaic team-building exercises failed to do. Instead, we just got Kendall rigging some technobabble so Koda and Riley could zap the problem away, which was boring.

Not to mention that we got the tiresome cliche of everyone pretending they forgot someone's birthday and making them feel miserable and unloved just for the sake of a surprise party. Also, when they were looking for Shelby's phone, why didn't any of them think of calling it up and finding it by the ringtone?

True, although it's been a while. I think the last time they did it was "Bicycle Built for the Blues" during PR Turbo.

I'm not sure which is creepier, sexy Rita or hunky Alpha. I like the visible cockpit on the Tyrannosaurus Zord, though.

    I actually love that art.

It's not bad, just... some of the ideas are weird. Alpha looks like a Terminator/Cylon. "Prepare to die-ai-ai-ai!"

Yeah, I think Rita looks pretty cool but I'm not sure about Alpha. I don't think he looks bad necessarily, but the humanoid form looks considerably different from his more "cute" classic design.

Well, that's the thing about concept art. It's about trying out possibilities. I've seen concept art for other movies where the artists came up with some pretty experimental designs that were pretty far afield from what they were adapting, while the final film ended up with something closer to the original. The concept phase is where you have the freedom to stretch your imagination.

Still, I'm glad they didn't go with this guy's designs. They're interesting, but they make Zordon and the Rangers' tech seem kind of threatening and dark. Zordon and Alpha look scarier than Rita. I think that would've been the wrong direction for the Power Rangers.

I just think it makes them look more alien, which I like. I dunno, I usually enjoy darker takes on the more cartoonish properties.

If anyone is interested. Here's what's going on overseas regarding the next sentai series

The newest name for the next senta is

    'Dōbutsu Sentai Jūōger'

Toei filed the application on September 7.

    The theme involves animals.

That can work up to a point -- I still think RPM is the best Power Rangers season ever -- but if they are actually redoing Zordon and Alpha and Rita (and Zedd?), then I think that calls for something more upbeat. Heck, Rita didn't really impress me until she and Zedd got married and became this fun, bickering comedy couple.

Interesting Dino Charge episode this week. Having the cast "travel" to New Zealand so they could take advantage of where they were filming for once instead of hiding it reminds me of the Australia-trip episodes that MMPR did while the movie was being filmed in Australia.

More interesting, though, was the idea of an unqualified civilian becoming a Ranger. Maybe "unqualified" is a bit harsh for Albert, since he did find his courage eventually, but it's an unusual approach to have someone become a Ranger and just not be cut out for the job. There was Kat in SPD becoming a Ranger for one episode, but that was explicitly temporary and she remained a part of the team in her regular science-advisor job.

I'm also a bit surprised that they went to the trouble of filming a transformation sequence for Albert if they aren't going to use him again.

Also, it's a bit incongruous to treat someone as a kook for talking about Bigfoot and dragon's eggs and UFOs, given that the Earth is constantly being invaded by monsters from space and defended by robotic avatars of dragons and other mythical creatures. And we have seen the mutant Bigfoot Bluefur in Megaforce and the Yeti Norg in Operation Overdrive.

The only one of the MMPR movie designs I don't like is Alpha. I understand designs change in a reboot, but I would think there would be a way to do a cool, big budget version of the character without going to something so different from the original design.

Like I said, that's the sort of thing you do in the initial concept phase of a movie's production design -- try out all sorts of possibilities before narrowing down on a final selection, which is often more conservative. The preliminary phase is where you're free to let your imagination run wild, since most of the proposals will be rejected anyway. I remember seeing some of the concept art for possible Klingon redesigns in Star Trek Into Darkness, and a number of them went much farther afield from previous Klingon designs than the one they ended up using. By the same token, I'm sure the rejected drawings we've been discussing are just one of multiple rejected design proposals.

I enjoyed Dino Charge this week. In addition to giving us the oldest actor to play a Ranger during its airing (?), it's also using New Zealand AS New Zealand for a change, though aside from the ferry ride across the bay it's not like they really did much differently than normal. Good save getting Chase out of having to include his family in the plot, but he could have just as easily popped off to see them before heading back home.

I *do* like the notion of a cowardly Ranger, but at the same time it went a was to show that heroism need not mean beating the bad guys with wire-fu all the time. Yes, it was odd seeing him with his own (tiny) morphing sequence, though in doing so it sorta gave away his eyepatch gag. I expect we'll see him again, given what happens in Kyoryuger.

And Keeper is the jerk of the week. Everyone ELSE has to FLY to Auckland, but Keeper gets to teleport. Maybe he could only zap himself places, but still - dick move, alien guy. It's FIFTEEN HOURS in a metal tube. Even if the museum sprung for Business Class, when the world's at stake...

    Mark

PS - Was Brennan Mejia that ripped at the beginning of the series? Guy's got a gun show happening and it was readily evident this week!

Next week's episode is also in NZ, so maybe we'll see Chase's family there.
