Petition: Cancel the New CBS Star Trek Series Now!

Thanks a lot, Mirror Universe Obama.

He's the one with the sinister goatee, right?
Truly our greatest Emperor.

Anyway, this is a pretty big satire fail. It manages to simultaneously be a nerd stereotype and attack nerd strawmen.

Why is it every time something people are excited about is announced on the internet, as soon as people naturally start to express any small reservations, some obnoxious troll comes along and makes an 'OMIGOSH IM SO CLEVER' parody post like everybody who isn't unreservedly gushing it is just an unsatisfiable complainer?

Agreed.

Yeah, honestly, what I've seen on this forum over the last 4 days has made me feel pretty weary - TrekBBS is one of the largest places of Star Trek discussion - by now, Star Wars fans would be picking apart every little fascinating bit of continuity - tiny hints - instead here the reaction has been both suprisingly muted, as if nobody, in the heart of Trek fandom cares that much, and also very negative.

I admit, I have my worries, but it's time to get into gear like the fans of the best damn TV franchise we are, and act like true geeks.

Dare I suggest, as heretical as it may seem, the idea that Trek will not continue into perpetuity? Will the importance of the character of such and such iteration be a matter of the same kind of concern, 25 or 50 years hence? Mind you I'm not talking about exhaustion here, simply that the template and parameters that have more or less informed the franchise, at some point, will be perceived as having run their course. That another conception, which may or may not turn out to be epochal, for the presentation of the elements of adventure, exploration, and the development of character in a space setting, will emerge to inform the direction that matches our changing perspective of this age old matter of wonder and yearning.

To everything,(turn, turn, turn)

there is a season;(turn, turn, turn)

I've missed you guys, most of all.

I don't remember your names, of course. I'm just referring to the people who don't find any of my posts funny, yet are mysteriously compelled to read all of my posts anyway and then comment on how not-funny they are.

Researcher: "The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes."

Pig Vomit: "How can that be?"

Researcher: "Answer most commonly given? 'I want to see what he'll say next.'"

Pig Vomit: "Okay, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern?"

Researcher: "Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day."

Pig Vomit: "But... if they hate him, why do they listen?"

Researcher: "Most common answer? 'I want to see what he'll say next.'"

I'll see you in my next thread. ;)

I really hope they don't listen to your petition. I'm anxiously waiting for Captain O'Neil to return to TV, and Rick Anderson is a tough actor to recast.
