I won't exaggerate. 2001 was a great time to be a fan of Trek on television. VOY was going out on a high note (well, for the most part anyways) and the Prequel series some of us had wanted for years was finally a reality and about to debut on our screens. The premiere was an event for me and coming just two weeks after 9/11 it arrived at a good time to distract many of us from the events in the news.
I hope the new show fills me with some of that same anticipation and excitement.

You weren't the only one. I grew to like "Faith of the Heart," but the promo song was catchy when juxtaposed over footage from a Star Trek prequel series. Had they gotten the rights to use that music for the theme song I don't think I'd have complained.

The whole line of discussion reminds me of that Futurama episode where they said in the future Star Trek became a religion.
I can just hear two sides of the nerd rage, fighting against each other in epic battle, perhaps for the Trekkie equivalent of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem (or, at least, Vasquez Rocks): ''Heathen! Thine Star Trek isn't as True To The Word Of The Great Bird Of The Galaxy as mine art!! Prepare to meet thy maker!!!'' (Cue clash of swords)

....such a perversion of "star trek philosophy" (to the extent such a thing exists) or IDIC or whatever would be no more bizarre than how parts of the histories of some religions that profess to have compassion or love thy neighbour as their core values actually turned out.

But the truth is that the whole ''My Star Trek is better than Your Star Trek'', or ''My Doctor Who is better than your Doctor Who'', or ''My Battlestar Galactica is better than your Battlestar Galactica'', or ''Original Trilogy is better than Prequel Trilogy'', etc etc discussions do leave me weary of internet fandom. Let's all just agree to disagree, and let people enjoy the things that they want to enjoy, eh?
