Why CBS is taking the wrong approach to nutrek.

685? Try about 450. Hate to break it to you but there's a lot of garbage in Star Trek.

Or put the final nail in the Star Trek coffin.
Please, we're only getting this show because of the JJ films. Trek was dead and buried before them. Remember that Enterprise got cancelled due to low ratings on UPN. That's like McDonalds dropping an item from the menu for being cheap and bland.

Gosh- can't believe all the hate here because someone actually WANTS to produce a Trek series. Maybe it's because I'm really old and remember the bad old days when we didn't have anything but reruns of TOS, but, I'm pretty happy someone's giving it another swing.
And I think CBS should be APPLAUDED for taking the next logical step of taking Trek right to the internet. We learned from TOS, Voy and Ent that Trek and sci-fi in general has little business on network TV. (unless you really like stunt-cast pro wrestlers and "valentines to the fans" during Sweeps periods) Nu BSG changed the way sci-fi tv is made and Nu BSG could never have happened on network TV. Sci-fi is just too niche. It's cable, the net or nothing. This is the only way to go and I'm pretty happy about it.
Anyway, I'm a cord-cutter so I get everything through my Apple TV. By 2017, about a zillion more people will be like me so I don't see what the big deal is.

You can get a Chromecast for almost nothing and it can stream anything from your browser tab. With streaming, Trek doesn't have to worry about an old rating system that ignores how most people watch tv now. They just have to worry about how many people are watching the episodes online. Community went from NBC to Yahoo's streaming service and their official viewing numbers have gone up. This could be the best thing to ever happen to Star Trek.

At least Kurtzman has a track record involving various genre series and movies.

Berman's track record was "Big Blue Marble."

As we know next to nothing about Trek2017, I don't think that we should jump to any conclusions. When TNG appeared I gave it a chance, even though I was used to TOS. :bolian:

We should at least wait until we know what the concept is before saying it's a terrible direction for the franchise. Unless you think it's terrible that they making more Trek.

Alright if you can guess I'm quite upset about kurtzman being attached to the new series. Anyways long story I don't think I'm alone so I figure it's useful to have a thread dedicated to what the perceived flaws are in the next series.

MODS:
I think it's better if we have a place for criticism instead of having complaints in every other thread. Also maybe if we air out our criticism maybe we'll decide we might actually like it.

It sounds like you need to sign my petition:

Space- The Final Frontier. It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a Federation Starbase, have won their first victory against the evil Klingon Empire. During the battle, Section 31 managed to capture secret plans to the Klingon Empire's ultimate weapon, Red Matter, a large, space going blob with enough power to turn an entire planet into a black hole. Pursued by the Klingon Empire's sinister agents, Carol Marcus races home aboard the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701...No bloody A, B, C, D, or E ....or NX) custodian to the plans that can save her people, and give us a Star Trek series that has been prejudged before it ever even hit full on production status.

Sorry...couldn't resist. Just needed to make a jab. :D

Wait, what's going on now?

So did everyone hear there's going to be a new Star Wars and Star Trek? That's just cray cray. It's like 1999 til whenever Enterprise got cancelled all over again.

OMG, the temporal causality loop has started! gaahhhhh!!!

Quick, somebody leave the number three lying around in great quantities and uncertain points of obviousness so we can avoid ......

THUD!

Duexmachina trek will be back,

There weren't a long list of things one had to do, simply avoid duexmachina crap, and campy plot twists etc.

#1 Stop duexmachina, instead they hired someone who's in love with it.

1) Get rid of duexmachina, and plot devices like technobabble which are used to create magical solutions. If something goes wrong it goes wrong. The big trick is to have writing staff take bullets for the team, if your idea causes a blah episode it's better than causing more pain for future writers.

And it's spelled deus ex machina.
