Just replace the surfboard with a guitar...

EDIT: Actually someone else beat me to it.

I never thought of it that way, but yeah, The Doctor and his guitar is about as lame as Poochie and his 90s 'tude. Unfortunately, the stupid clothes and guitar will probably be around until Capaldi leaves, unlike Poochie who went back to his planet after one episode. But, I think I'll survive "Rockin'" Capaldi, as long as The Doctor doesn't start skateboarding, surfing, or wearing a baseball cap backwards :rommie:

The Doctors could form their own bad, the second Doctor with his recorder, the seventh Doctor on the spoons and the 12th Doctor with his guitar. :techman:

The Fifth Doctor knows how to play the harp. :p

He reminds me of Lucius Caecilius from The Fires of Pompeii. I still don't like it when they cast people like that, it was such a disaster with Doctor #6.

He reminds me of John Frobisher from Torchwood: Children of Earth. :p

Actors are people who need work in order to make a living. If that means they end up with multiple recognizable roles in the same show/franchise, then that's the way things go.

Besides, whatever else went wrong during Colin Baker's run, the fact he had a prior role on Doctor Who wasn't one of them.

But if he only had something cool, like a fez. Instead of that sick, repulsive electric twanger.

When I clicked on this, I was really hoping that the answer would be "a very young Scrappy Doo". And hey - not far off, really. :D

I like the guitar and I hope Capaldi makes an appearance playing at the proms.

Also, it's already well established that the Doctor Who universe is full of random, unexplained doppelgangers. It wasn't just a matter of reusing the same actor and hoping no one would notice. They did stories where one of the guest stars was played by one of the current regular actors on the series and this was a major part of the plot. The classic series did this 4 separate times:
The Abbott of Amboise looked just like the 1st Doctor in "The Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve."
A bunch of rebels tried to recruit the 2nd Doctor to impersonate the dictator Salamander in "The Enemy of the World."
The 1st Romana looked just like an alien princess and everyone else assumed that she was an android duplicate in "The Androids of Tara."
Nyssa looked just like a 1920s debutante, which led to Nyssa getting kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity in "Black Orchid."
