Star Trek: CAPTAIN PIKE

Fanfic (and these productions are fanfic) are pretty free to accept, ignore and even invent new things. Phase II accepts TAS while STC ignores it and that's just one example. Phase II has a significant refit pior to TMP (which doesn't make sense to me).

Please don't get started about Sybok, no. As far as the rest of us know, Sarek had two children.

He's canon, whether you like it or not.

Indeed. Vulcans are bethrothed to their mates early in life. It's entirely possible Sybok's mother was Sarek's bethrothed and she simply died shortly after Sybok was born, leaving Sarek free to latter marry Amanda and beget Spock. Makes perfect sense to me.

I got the impression Sybok's mother was (for whatever reason) raising Sybok as a single mother, and something happened to her; leMatya attack, some rare deadly Vulcan disease, something. Spock did say "When she died, he came to live with us. And we were raised as brothers." meaning Spock was already around when Sybok's mother died.

The novelization of TFF gives more back story, about how Sarek and the priestess were married, but she had the marriage annulled when she decided to devote herself to the priesthood. Sarek didn't even learn of Sybok's existence until she died.

I know, not "cannnon." But interesting, nonetheless. I wonder if the novelist came up with that, or if it was in an earlier story treatment or script for the movie.

It was dialog spoken by Spock as part of the "Sybok came to live with us" stuff.

I'd say that's potentially from an earlier draft script, then. If it were mere authorial exposition, that would more likely be the writer's take on it.

Captain Pike has just launched a new Indiegogo campaign to finish the visual effects for act one and to start filming act two.

Generally speaking, I believe its against the rules here to post direct links to your fundraising page.

Black Ranger is in this film!! I'd contribute if they let him pull out a Hip Hop Kido move!!

I became sad when Eric Roberts introduced himself and felt the need to mention his sister and daughter to help place him...

Look the FX in the new trailers are impressive, but instead of the fascinating intelligent sci-fi that the Cage represented, here they have Pike in a space shoot-em-up type of story...

I am not affiliated with this project in any way. I will not post direct links to other fundraising pages in future. My only motive for posting it here was to share something (that as a fan) I am really excited about.
I have now removed the Indiegogo link from my origional post.

The denial of adding links to anything related to Trek seems odd to me. Even if it's fundraising. Can the moderator explain? I'm sure there are good reasons for it.

From the two trailers, this project has no energy — in the way it's shot, in the dialogue, in the acting. It feels flat and uninspired.

As I understand it, they just don't want to open the door to letting people use the board for advertising. Other than the paid ads, of course.

There's certainly a heavy preponderance of medium close-ups.

I like the idea of a Pike series- A debate on the pros and cons of continuing a notional Jeffrey Hunter style Trek are in another thread.

I have some concerns about the execution here. Frenzy does not equal convincing action. Does every fan trailer need to look like it's a multi million dollar battle movie?

I was waiting for the deep voiced "In a World..." announcer:

"In a time before Kirk... an angry Federation... at war with itself... In his darkest hour, a new captain faces his toughest foe...."

"...FIRE!"

pew pew pew!

Ugh.

I'd also thought that Koenig was hanging it up after Renegades eps 2 & 3? Perhaps we can infer that he'd already filmed his work for Pike.

I have this thing nagging at me -

Gravitas.

I don't feel Garth from what we've seen from Peters, and I don't feel Pike from what we've seen of this fella. Granted it's a promo- Yet no one is rushing these folks to make a promo that doesn't convince. Take the time, and find the cast -that does.

Screw up on props, effects, make small continuity blunders, engage in too much techno babble or fan service, etc- but your lead better carry the water.

Otherwise it's just fans paying other fans to put on the uniform.

PS -goatee? Really?

As far as I understand it, he was only speaking in regards to his Pavel Chekov character. He is playing a new character in Captain Pike called 'Admiral Harlan Sobol'.

From what little I have seen so far I am impressed with Jorge Pallo’s acting. Also I visually loved their interpretation of Spock. Having said all that, I did get the impression from the promo that some of the actors were uncomfortable in front of the cameras. Not to the extent that they were actually making eye contact them, but through their body language. Nonetheless I am still excited about this production.

Got it. Appreciate the clarification. Kinda liked him as Bester. Lets see how he plays angry/dark/driven.
