Spoilers Gotham - Season 2

They won't.

The bad guys evil plan always gets routed by the good guy.

Superhero stories are about narrowly averting certain victory by evil SOBs.

No, FSM, just no, a 1,000 times no.
Even as someone who is still enjoying Gotham I can pretty confidently say that is not the case. It's just insane, campy, and over the top just for the hell of it. There is no deeper meaning here.

I agree. The writing on this show is too fundamentally incompetent to have some brilliant satirical purpose behind it. It's just bad.
I can't believe it seems my point went over your head. These producers are making fun of the out-of-control serialization of live action comic books, and they are providing stories that have a sick and twisted side to them, which is much more tolerable than taking comic book material straight "Oh, he's a speedster, and he came from another dimension, but here he has no power, but he's a speedster and can help us. He''s not like he once was but he can redeem himself" flat uninspired crap we are getting on other shows. I happen to find most of Gotham's plots interesting, but even if the concessional story-line is crap, I can still expect it to be delivered to me with a bit of an attitude, and characters like Bolluck will deliver dead-pan hard-boiled detective lines like "I need a Danish" or that he'll say "The d=shift is almost over" and the lieutenant will say "yeah.. almost" and give him the assignment anyway. It's those things - set in a twisted comic book world - that in the end are more interesting than the story. I mean we are flooded with comic book stiff these days, it's hard to break new ground on the stories themselves so it all is about how it's delivered.

Oh, I understand exactly what you're talking about, I'm just completely certain you're wrong. There just isn't that much depth to what we're getting here. The producers are not making fun of out of control serialization of live action comic books, it is an out of control serialized live action comic book. If they were making fun of it, it would be even more over the top. This takes itself way to seriously for it to be trying to make fun of anything.

I can't believe it seems my point went over your head.

You know, it's really very insulting and condescending to assume that the only possible reason someone could disagree with you is that they were too dense to understand what you were saying. It is entirely possible for people to understand each other's positions perfectly and still disagree.

If FSM is 100% correct, somebody needs to tell the network and sponsors. I doubt that they're in on this joke that's coming at the considerable expense of a prime-time, Big Three TV series going down the tubes.

I don't keep up with ratings and numbers, but I thought the show lagged a bit in quality last season as it was coming to a close, but I remember hearing it was renewed just a lot of shows more well regarded by genre fans got the chopping block treatment.

No need to be patronizing, especially when you probably know less than I do about how the show is doing

In your theory, what's the end result? If the joke succeeds brilliantly, does the show get cancelled? Or does the general TV audience show up to watch this wonderfully kooky show after good WOM from the people who "get it"?

This feels like a comic book that I wouldn't waste my time or money on. There's been no lack of crappy comic books.

FYI, from a couple weeks back:
Monday's episode had a 1.30 rating in the 18-49 demo. This is a pretty significant drop from the previous series low of 1.50.

I don't know how healthy that rating is in general, but substantially downward-trending numbers don't make for the sort of graph that the execs want to see.

I think I know where FSM is coming from, I enjoyed Helix in the same manner, it was fun just to see what they were going to pull out of their ass...er, hats each week. Yeah, it might be better if it made more sense or a cohesive whole but sometimes it's fun just to go for a crazy ride.

There was a recent review of the Last Witch Hunter that maybe says it better than I can: http://io9.com/the-last-witch-hunter-is-the-most-amazing-guilty-pleasu-1738222593

Kinda like Supergirl, I feel like a lot of things are happening really fast...especially this fight between Galavan & Penguin.

Is Galavan someone in the Batman lore? If not, he seems destined to die by the end of season 2.

My take on Batman is that the parts are better than the sum.

The individual actors are doing a great job in their roles, especially Bruce, Galavan, Penguin, Selina & Harvey....but it doesn't have that feel, like a Deep Space 9 or Walking Dad in terms of those pieces coming together at different points.

Well, I stuck around for one more episode, but I don't know how much more I've got in me. For me, this show has gotten to a point where I don't care what happens next...I'm just not that invested in the characters or situations...but I'm sure it will be sufficiently grotesque. Add that to how buggy FOX's site is acting, at least for me, which makes it more of a chore to get through the episodes there.

It was nice to see the riddle motif starting to work its way in to Nygma's slippery slide into serial killing. That part with the vending machine I could definitely have done without.

I would like to see Galavan get his come-uppance...Jim's onto him, so his episodes are numbered. But it's because I genuinely dislike the character and his portrayal, rather than because he's a villain that I love to hate.

Also, Morena Baccarin is hot...which is not only a very shallow reason to continue watching, but insufficient motivation by itself to endure the site bugs.
