Jenna leaving - next compnion ?

Osgood seems the obvious choice, but I think personally I would prefer to see a new character altogether. It'd be neat to have a companion that genuinely hates The Doctor, I think. That would be a cool dynamic, someone who has to travel with him but really doesn't want to.

Well, they kind of already did that. Her name was Tegan, she traveled with the 5th Doctor, and she was fairly intolerable.

What I'm hoping for is a companion who actually travels with The Doctor, staying on the TARDIS and not treating him as her hobby.

I never really got the impression that Teagan hated the doctor in the stories I've seen with her. She just seemed like a whiny bitch flight attendant who wanted to go home.

Well, I think she hated him once it became obvious he wasn't really able to get her home. If nothing else, she hated traveling with him.

Good for you for maintain the "live in the my mum''s basement" traditional - don't let anyone tell you referring to women as bitches is a problem.

Good for you getting butthurt over a word. For one I do not and have never lived in my mom's basement, married with two daughters actually. For two, bitch isn't a word I use broadly to refer to all women. I stated that Teagan comes across as a whiny bitch because Teagan comes across as a whiny bitch. You may now kindly step down from your horse.

Tegan was awesome, and she did want to travel with the Doctor. She had her chance to leave, and in fact did leave and then came back. Sarah Sutton is lovely but Nyssa was a trifle dull. Adric was annoying. Tegan was just great ;)

Now, Mel... she was a great companion under BF, and her fate could be touched upon if wanted by NuWho... but she's not the most popular of companions, is she?
I can't think of one person who ever said they liked Mel.

I liked her fine. She wasn't my favorite and they never gave her any good material, so it's hard to properly judge her.

I'd like to see just about any old companions come back. I still say that they should have brought back Ian, Romana, Leela, and Commander Maxil in "Day of the Doctor." Tegan, Zoe, Jamie, Susan, and Ace are all classic companions that I would like to see again.

Frank Skinner would be at the top of my list but I would like to see Rigsy (Joivan Wade) travel with The Doctor for a little while or as long as we're allowed to dream, how about River for a season.

Agreed. Even for just half a season.

Though I admit to liking Spanglish, Just Go With It, and Hotel Transylvania, just not as much as the titles mentioned above.

I really hated "Spanglish." I wanted to smack the bejeezus out of Tea Leoni's character the entire time.

But I like Clara. She's got a wit to her and can keep up with the Doctor. Also she bounces in nice ways in some outfits.

Agreed on all fronts!

I'd like for the next companion to be from somewhere other than present day Earth. Even if they're just from recent Earth history, like 1960-1990. I'd like to see a companion that's a scifi geek. Not a Doctor fan girl like Osgood but a fan of actual scifi. (I have an idea for an episode where she uses the TARDIS to go back in time to save a bunch of missing "Avengers" episodes from being wiped, only to cause them to be erased by the TARDIS's magnetic fields.)

Tegan was annoying at best, but while she hated not being able to get home, she didn't hate the Doctor himself.

Turlough was another companion who, if he'd had his druthers, wouldn't have been there. He only asked to join the Doctor because of his deal with the Black Guardian. But as his story arc went on he became less cowardly and selfish, and ended up redeeming himself.

But I do agree with you about treating the Doctor as a hobby. With the companions in Classic Who it was all or nothing.

Well, she did have to travel with Adric...
Not after Adric died. And she did miss him.

Well, she did have to travel with Adric...
Honestly, I like Adric a lot more than Tegan. Neither is as good as the third vcompanion of that era. Nyssa (who never really got a chance), but at least Adric wanted to travel and wasn't whining.
Adric is actually fairly high on my list of favorite companions.

Nyssa, on the other hand, was snooty, boring, and had the most ridiculous taste in clothes. I'm surprised that Tegan, at least, didn't stuff some things in a suitcase and toss it out the TARDIS door just before they left Terminus... since Nyssa literally left in her underwear.

But if you had Commander Maxil, you'd have either had to have a regenerated version or a much older Maxil, given Colin Baker's age. And if you're going to have Colin Baker, the fans would have been upset if he hadn't played the Sixth Doctor.

I like the idea of Colin Baker playing an old, indolent, obnoxious version of Commander Maxil. He'd be sitting there resplendent in all of his useless medals like Herman Goering and Romana would say, "I can't believe that you're still using that ridiculous regeneration!" Maxil would reply, "Why mess with a classic?" Then, when stock footage of the sixth Doctor appears at the end, Maxil would complain, "He stole my face!"

Agreed. Even for just half a season.

Now that Big Finish has announced its tenth Doctor audios, my hope is their next big announcement will be eleventh Doctor audios -- and when it comes to companion actors I think Alex would be more likely to appear on audio (since she's already recorded a bunch for them) than Karen or Jenna. So, I'd be thrilled with a boxed set of adventures with eleven and River. :)

I reckon have two companions, which aren't connected to eachother. Perhaps two females. They should also join the TARDIS at different times, more like the classic series.

I don't think we'll ever see the "roll on, roll off" type companion again, with a companion joining or leaving mid-series, because of the way the publicity cycle works today. It's easier and more beneficial to promote the series and its cast as a unit, hence things like the "Doctor Who World Tour" or the annual San Diego pilgrimage. Trying to introduce and promote a mid-series companion doesn't work with the publicity cycle.

I'd like to see an original companion to give Capaldi's Doctor a blank slate to work with.

It's become obvious Clara was rewritten into most of these scripts as she's contributed nothing to the season so far.

What tosh, Clara's been really useful. I mean how would Missy have known how deep that pit was on Skaro without her? :p

What I find funny is that all the pre-series publicity was about how it was all about the Doctor and Clara travelling together having the time of their lives, when the reality has been that they hardly ever appear on screen together any more.

If she does die* in Episode 10 as rumoured, at this point I see the reaction being a big "so what?"

*That's obviously the Moffat definition of the word "Die" which doesn't mean to him what it means to the rest of us.

Sadly, this is exactly how I feel. The longer Clara is around, the less I seem to care about her, which is disappointing.

I do wonder something, though. This season was, in theory, conceived with the idea that Clara wouldn't be around. She was supposed to leave after last year, but at the last minute she decided to stay.

So, presumably, these stories were rewritten to include her again. But what I'm really wondering: if Clara was supposed to be gone, who was supposed to be in her place? Was this going to be a Companionless season? Was Missy supposed to have more of a full time role? Was some random new person supposed to have been introduced? Because I'm having a hard time figuring out where that would happen.
