The more I look at pictures of the new duty uniform, the more I feel like the designer is pulling some details from the TNG S3-7 uniforms, particularly with the darker sides, high collar and the thicker, more matte looking material.

The odd part about the jumpsuits, to me anyway, is the rank on it is a the collar (ala TNG+ style) rather than the sleeves. I will be curious the see the reasons why or if they even explain it.

In the last two films, the sleeveless female uniforms came under fire for having no way to indicate rank.

Which I can understand, and even agree with, to a certain point. Though, the short sleeve is a variant, and female officers have long sleeves with appropriate rank.

But, the point still stands that it is a variation that doesn't necessarily require comment in the film.

I like the new standard duty uniforms. I never did like those jerseys.

I agree with this. There was something way too casual and "sporty" about the uniform tunics in the first two movies. It felt like they were running around in T-shirts.

Yes, I agree, these new uniforms are better than the sports jerseys of the previous two.

If only there were some other established place to locate the rank insignia other than the end of the sleeve, like maybe the shoulder.

Also, I've gotten so used to the textured fabric in ST09 and ST:ID that seeing the smooth fabric is a bit jarring to me.

The new away team uniform is straight-up Starlord out of Guardians of the Galaxy.

The alien woman's outfit doesn't look alien. Not exactly damning, but just meh. It's slapdash sci-fi for the masses. "Just make it look future-y."

The new service uniform is alright, but badly tailored from cheap fabric. Hopefully it'll look better on screen.

The uniforms on the extras look like they were designed by someone who's never seen an outfit outside a MMORPG screen, then had $14 to make each one.

That picture must be a bad example. It doesn't look a thing like the new uniforms.

The holster does look, in both cases, like something Han Solo or any movie cowboy would wear.
