Star Trek: Renegades

You guys need a holo-photo of Janeway on his desk. Not like that crappy 8 by 10 wall photo you had in Chekov's office from old publicity shots

The reason you need this is that J/C is MASSIVE and you will get a lot of enthusiasm from that crowd if they know J/C is going to be a fact in the Renegades universe. So far it is only a fact in the novels.

I of course am not J/C but I like to see other people happy.

I think they need to focus on shoring things up on the production side such as camera and editing issues and making sure that those bizarre close up shots aren't repeated. Those were terrible.

We are, many new crew members. Many had done work on either Trek or other professional series and movies. Most of them will be revealed next week. The is still another actor from a previous trek show who was part of the main cast )of that particular show) we will revealing next week as well as the cast members that are returning from Episode 1.

That's great news. Looking forward to changes and improvements that are on a similar scale as from "The Cage" to WNMHGB.

He is married to Janeway in the novels, will be dropping a comment in Renegades about "the missus"?

Not married, but in a relationship.

As for Beltran playing Chakotay again.... It feels a bit off. I mean, the man has been quite been pretty clear in how he feels about Voyager and Star Trek, so not sure why he wants to go back again.

A suitable payment, perhaps? I doubt any of these name actors are working for free, and a job is a job. :)

Well yeah, most obvious reason. A job is a job. But there are some jobs you just don't want to do. And I thought this would be his.

The simplest explanation would be that he just didn't enjoy working on Voyager. And Renegades isn't Voyager. There could be all kinds of promises of better character stuff for him to do, we'll have to wait and see. I think it'd be all kinds of awesome if months from now I read a lot of, "I didn't like Beltran on VOY, but I did in this!"

Far-fetched maybe, but stranger things have happened. :)

I liked him fine on Voyager, though I agree they never really did anything with his character. Hopefully Renegades will give him something good to work with.

Here is a glimples of the new admiral uniform (yes it needs to be tailored just a bit)

This is an improvement on the original which screamed 'amateur' but Nick makes some good points - interestingly before the pilot made production this was the concept design on the donors' website.

I do however enjoy how it hybrids the First Contact and Movie Era uniforms

That's right, Chakotay and Janeway are in a relationship.

Also in the Voyager books, Admiral Janeway and Captain Chakotay are both in the Delta Quadrant, the Full Circle fleet.

Chakotay is captain of USS Voyager (Tom Paris is his first officer) and the admiral has her office onboard the USS Vesta.

Renegades just announced Melinda Snodgrass will be writing episodes 2 and 3. Suddenly I feel like donating to the next Kickstarter.

I don't care what *insert Trek actor* has signed on, but signing a good writer, now that really grabs my interest. Really happy to hear this.

That is a great sign. I am a fan of her work, and her being on board brings me much hope.

Yup, I knew you guys with like that, she is going to be writing episodes 2 and 3 as well as being the Co-Executive producer. As mentioned, we are concentrating on area's that the pilot was critiqued on.

Star Trek Renegades continues to build a powerhouse production team, this time bringing the extremely talented Melinda Snodgrass into the fold as Co-Executive Producer. She brings with her a wealth of experience in television and film and has been tapped to write the scripts for episodes 2 and 3 of the series

Melinda has enjoyed a storied career as a screenwriter and novelist, with several novels out including #19 of Star Trek: The Original Series—“The Tears of the Singers.”

She has also written a great cross-genre trilogy where science and magic collide.

In addition to writing novels, Melinda has had plenty of experience navigating the vast universe of Hollywood, writing for such television series as Profiler—where she ran the Writer’s Room—L.A. Law, The Outer Limits, Reasonable Doubts, and more. She has also written four scripts for Star Trek: The Next Generation, including writing the 2nd season episode “The Measure of a Man,” which is widely regarded as one of the best Next Gen episodes and is the all-time favorite episode of Brent Spiner and Marina Sirtis.
Interestingly enough, the script for “The Measure of a Man” was the first unsolicited script that Next Gen producers accepted and was also the first script she ever wrote. It garnered her a Writers Guild of America Award nomination in the category of Episodic Drama. Not too bad at all for your first trip to the plate.
She left the Next Generation crew at the end of their third season, as she pursued other projects…and she has had quite a number of those.
Her filmography resume is too extensive to list here, but if you want to check out more of Melinda’s work in television and film, check out her profile in the Internet Movie Database by clicking on the IMDB image below.
Once again, please join with us in welcoming Melinda to the Renegades crew. Her experience at crafting stories and her pedigree with the Star Trek universe will be beyond valuable as we take Renegades into the future.

I'm very happy to hear this as well. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment of Renegades and happy that the critiques are being addressed.

Like I said earlier, I was scared to watch it considering all the reviews and was surprised that it wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. This is definitely great news as the story is really the only place where I thought it was really weak.

@Tom (and Renegades team)

Congratulations on signing Milinda Snograsss. We've been pretty harsh 'round here about your first episode- but you've all taken the critiques seriously, and been quite gracious (non-defensive) in your replies.

I wish you much success in episodes 2, 3 and beyond. For what it's worth- fewer gratuitous effects, combined with great story, great acting, great directing, and great editing will seal the deal.

May I suggest that for these next several outings, the team take its time? There's no need to rush- release when the eps are as good as you can make 'em.

Please, though, no more production relatives shoehorned in- Some of that stuff just took me out of your first story. You all seem to have worked so hard- your results should be worthy of all that effort.

On signing all the Voyager/DS9 type folks-

One thing that does strike me about specifically using the Voyager cast, is that given the Maquis elements (never really fleshed out) and the overall outsider /70 years away nature of Voyager- (and let's not forget Janeway's prime directive shenanigans!)- Voyager's crew would perhaps be more flexible/experienced (and better suited!) for Renegades' "bend the rules for the greater good" environment.

I've been pretty tough on Renegades- Specifically, I was concerned that it would be just "Buffy with a well armed Firefly (complete with Ragtag crew!) However, with these changes coming, it appears I pre judged.

Good luck Renegades team.

Always good.

One miniscule nitpick I haven't seen mentioned (so thought I would) is that there were a small handful of times in the pilot where the color correction wasn't aligned properly with the shot. That is to say; one shot would cut to the next, and the color grading from the first shot would hold over onto the first frame of the next shot. It's minor, but still good to catch all these little blips to look extra professional. :)

One of the key selling points of Renegades for me is how they sign people who are arguably the B-listers of Trek, i.e. apart from Chekov none returned for a movie - Tuvok is the one who is the msot developed after Voyager as Russ has reprised the part numerous times.
