Scherzer won't be remotely close to the conversation for the NL Cy Young, but he's had an amazing year.

I need to do a lot of data dredging but I believe he's the only pitcher to have two no-hitters without walking a dude in the same single season.

It at least forces every team that still has a dog in the fight to all play hard the last day. If you had a later game, and the early game already decided whatever you were playing for, you'd rest guys or save a pitcher. THis way forces everyone to play, which is good.

This year was the first time that 3 qualifying pitchers (Arrieta, Greinke, Kershaw) had a WHIP under 0.900 in a season since they lowered the mound in 1969. 1968 and 1908 were the only other two years where that happened.

Also, the Pirates and Cubs (in that order) are the two worst teams in baseball at preventing stolen bases, so that should be an interesting game if someone ever manages to get on base.

thank god that Miami isn't in, just would have made it worse. Both NL, but still. And thankfully Tampa isn't in, because they've have just gone with it anyway, close enough.

Honestly about half the reason I don't want the Cubs to win this year...

Oh come on, is a Back to the Future reference that bad? I think it'd be a funny coincidence if that indeed happened. I'm not sure the curse will be broken though. It's sad that the Cubs and Pirates have such good records, but one of them will unfortunately have to go. I like 'em both and am so sick of the Cardinals.

If the Cubs don't let the pressure get to them, and stick to being patient at the plate, I think they'll win behind Arrieta.
