Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Has he learned a lesson in humility and knuckled down and learned to hit, or did his BABIP go through the roof again?

Hintt: his BABIP in September is .444.

Hint 2: He's taken one unintentional walk in the past month.

You act as if talent plays no role in BABIP. It does.

When Castro's BABIP is even remotely close to league average, he sucks and is one of the worst players in baseball. That is a simple fact.

I guess he's making his own luck somehow?

And we've been through this before - he was maybe 10% over league average during this all-star year, right? Was it even 10%?

Don't tell me those awards mean nothing. Next thing you're going to tell me, Jeter wasn't very good on defense? He's got like 80 Gold Gloves! ;)

Well, my Yankees are in the play-offs. Albeit barely...

Still have a chance for my prediction to be correct.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Okay, so if the Rangers win one more game, they clinch the AL West. So what has to happen to decide the second wildcard, then?

Three games remaining with the Astros up by one. If there's a tie, two of Houston, Los Angeles and Minnesota will play Game 163. If there's a three-way tie, they go to tiebreakers (starting with head-to-head records) to determine who plays.

Rookie hazing can be funny, but where is Kyle's wig?

God damn, Bryant is tall.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

And your 2015 NL Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta is done after 6 innings of 2 hit ball tonight.

1.77 ERA for the year, .080 2nd half ERA.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

He's the first pitcher to have 22 wins and a sub 2.00 ERA since Doc Gooding in 1995.

Should we be talking about Arrieta also as MVP. I know a lot of people are against a pitcher as MVP but honestly outside of Bryce Harper who is there really to talk about in the National League as MVP.

It would be nice, and he might wind up as high as second, but either Greinke or Kershaw (most likely Greinke) is winning, unless they both eat a puppy on the field at Dodger Stadium tomorrow.

Harper is so clearly the MVP in the NL that it isn't even close.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Pitchers have been named MVP, so there's precedent. I really don't know what gets taken into consideration for MVP (just stats?).

I really think Arrieta has the Cy Young locked up now. Greinke's ERA isn't that much lower and Arrieta's historic second half is, well...historic.

And Arrieta is the first Cub with 21+ wins since some guy named Ferguson Jenkins won 24.

Then you have Bryant as the probable ROY and Maddon as MOY. I just hope the awards aren't all we're talking about in a couple weeks.

Arrieta vs. the Pirates should be a win, and the Cubs match up better vs. the Cards right now in a series. The only thing that can stop them is one of those Cubby offensive slumps, but I think they're all getting hot right now.

I know that Bryce Harper is the MVP, I was talking about just discussion. As in, who gets those erroneous votes for MVP that always seem to happen. You know at least one or two Chicago reporters will maybe go this way. Is there a few reporters who don't like Bryce Harper to vote another way? Say for Arrieta, Cespedes or someone else.

No love for Terry Collins as MOY? Who has done more with less?

I think Maddon has it wrapped up because of the ~narrative~, which the BBWAA loved, but as for Collins, he's such a terrible on-field manager. That team has basically been saved by having a bucketload of world-class pitchers coming up and acting like demigods (and the Nationals collapsing in hilarious fashion). Between Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard and Matz (and even Colon showed signs of life at points), you can make an argument for the Mets having the best rotation in the league.

Speaking of managers, Matt Williams is out in Washington. So many teams have made changes already this season (or announced that the incumbents are staying, with the news that Robin Ventura is safe on the south side of Chicago), are there any more moves that will be made? The only place I can think of is San Diego, because I can't believe they're going to hang onto Pat Murphy.

Edit: Oh, I guess Dan Jennings hasn't decided if he'll return to the Marlins in any capacity.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Max Scherzer has a no-hitter through 6 in New York and Kyle Hendricks just lost a perfect game through 5 in Milwaukee.
