Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ Pap is a veteran. Harper is not. That alone makes all the difference.

Oh, bullshit.

Harper is the one who should STFU and listen to those with more experience. I don't fucking care how good Harper is, or how much of an MVP he is, that doesn't mean jack SHIT.

If I was Harper I wouldn't fucking care what a reliever who spends most of the damn game in the clubhouse has experience about. To act like Bryce Harper is a loafer instead of some damn maniac who runs into walls is silly. Shit, at least he made it to first - half of your damn 'veterans' wouldn't have even gotten that far.

The thing with Pap and Machado is completely irrelevant to this discussion. Harper had nothing to do with that, but he DID have something to do with not hustling when he should have.

Wrong. After Papelbon stupidly hit Machado Harper gave a quote to the media basically staying it was a dumb 'unwritten rule' thing to do and because of that Harper would probably end up getting hit in retaliation. It's pretty clear Papelbon was pissed about that and that's why he got on Harper. This was the game after they got eliminated in a trainwreck season - I'm amazed Harper even played.

Also, Bryce Harper, player of 505 career games: Not a veteran. Sure.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Papelbon has 652 Games or 690.2 innings pitched
Harper has 503 Games or 1812 at Bats

ETA: Some nice baseball bloopers from the NY Mets

Papebonehead is a shit head and I agree with Mad Dog... He would never play another game as a National. All Harper did was yell at him.

I've also seen much worse as far as "running it out to first".

Gregg Zaun took the opposite approach of the young Harper should be respecting the veteran Papelbon.

This is why I don't listen to Gregg Zaun.

Fox Sports' CJ Nitkowski polled a number of current and former players about the Harper/Papelbon situation, and the majority of them sided with Papelbon.
Uh huh, how many of them are really just jealous that the 'slacker' Harper is 10 times the player most of them ever were?

He didn't turn around and walk to the dugout, he went to 1st and would have been safe in the 0.0001 percent chance that the ball was dropped in left, Pap was just looking to start a fight.

All Harper did was yell at him.

Papelbon was totally in the wrong, and just looking to call Harper out on something after Harper called HIM out on the HBP the other day.

That said, "all he did was yell at him" kinda ignores that what he yelled involved "wanna settle this right now?" The classic phrase known to always defuse tense situations. Turns out, Papelbon DID want to. Can't ask someone if they wanna take the argument outside and then bitch when they hit you...

Yeah, don't ask for what you don't want, eh? :D

If I'm Harper, I'm going thug-life on shit head. ....

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Papelbon does the shit that he does because he knows that he's not the only asshole in the league with bad opinions, which means that he can mostly get away with his dumb shit and continue to earn his millions to play a fucking game. It's a terrible culture of unwritten nonsense that somehow makes it kind of okay to literally choke your colleagues.

Don't forget that Papelbon was infuriated that the umpire threw him out after hitting Machado because "But he didn't give a warning first!" He honestly thought he'd get away with maliciously pegging a player in the head because one of the so-called unwritten rules is that the ump is supposed to warn first, and he threw a sad when that rule was "broken."

Oh God, MLB Network is reporting that there's a "good chance" Dusty Baker manages either the Mariners or Dodgers next season.

Please pick the Mariners so that only one great pitcher dies instead of two.

Please pick the Dodgers so a perennial NL playoff team goes down the tubes.

I have a feeling Andrew Friedman of all people is not going to hire Dusty fucking Baker to run his baseball team.

Of course, Jerry Dipoto was the first player to hold a SABR card, so the idea of him hiring Dusty seems similarly outlandish.

Interesting info:

Addison Russell ranks 4th in MLB in Defensive Runs Saved at 2B
Addison Russell also ranks 4th in MLB in Defensive Runs Saved at SS

Rizzo wins the "fake out" of the year award for this.

Kind of exciting over here in the AL West.

The Angels really aren't that good, but 4 games against Texas gives us a shot.

After last night's great performance Starlin Castro said some things about Timby that are frankly unprintable.
