Jr's having an XBox One now they've come down in price and increased the memory. He's had a PS4 since they were released. Draw your own conclusions !

Incidentlly, if you've got an early PS4 with a small memory, we've just put a 2TB Hd into Jr's. For someone who is technically illiterate, it was pretty straightforward...

^It's always been that way with PS's. I got the 12GB superslim PS3 and had it updated to a 500GB HDD within minutes.

The PS4 is even easier, and yeah it's easy to grab 2TB drives now and slap one in in pretty fast.

The XBone doesn't like that, takes a lot more fiddling with the console and settings to get that to work.

I've always liked that the PS3 and PS4 seem to use common hard drives as opposed to proprietary drives like MS.

The 360 was a 2.5" drive in a special encasing that made the drives 2 or 3 times as expensive as a normal 2.5" drive.
The XB1 has a regular drive in it but replacing it will void the warranty, but the XB1 can use external drives...

Aye, both the XB1 and PS4 can use external HDD's, but they have to be formatted for those respective systems, even if you only intend to transfer video or music media. Thumb drives, however, I don't think fall under such restrictions, at least when transferring video or music media.

If you want to put an mp4 of a movie or an mp3 of music onto the PS4's or XB1's drives, best to use a thumb drive. Also, you can copy captured video from the PS4 onto a thumb drive.

Game storage and play would still seem to be largely dependent on internal HDD's though for both consoles.

I have placed a preorder for the Halo 5 Bundle. I started the XBox experience with Halo over a decade ago. I have looked at both. From what I have read, the biggest differences between the two consoles is the user interface and the graphics. Microsoft is updating their UI this fall. As for graphics, frankly, I do not care. If the game is riddled with bugs, and the game mechanics are crap, there is no amount of graphics that can hide this. I want the game to work. And, besides, graphics date quickly. A game that looks good now will be probably viewed in a few number of years as looking terrible. However, if the game works, people will continue to play it. I have read and seen on the Internet people playing games that are 10 or 20 years or even older because the game mechanics have held up. The games look like s**t, but, hell, the game works.

6-0 in favour of the Playstation 4? Yeah, that sounds about right.

It's not that the Xbox One is a bad console, but, similar to the Wii U, it appeals to a certain niche. If you're a huge fan of Microsoft's exclusives (Gears of Wars, Halo, Crackdown, etc.) then you definitely should buy an XB1, but if you have to ask which console to buy then those games are probably not that important to you. The Playstation 4 simply has a much larger and far, far more diverse library than the Xbox One. It's also the more powerful console and its stronger sales guarantees that it will see strong support from developers in the future.

Of course, the only truly good solution is to buy both consoles.

If I see a bit more compelling evidence that MS will not try to backpedal, and go back to the points that pretty much sunk the console in the first place, I just might get one, because you're right....if you have both consoles, you don't have to worry about exclusives. :)

As it stands, I have PS2 and Original Xbox, PS3 and Xbox 360, PSP, PS Vita, and PS4. (Also have a GameCube, but since Resident Evil HD Remaster has come to the PS3/PS4, and now that Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster is coming next year.....my GameCube has not seen a lot of use. Also was nice to see Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Dark Side Chronicles come over to the PS3, like I figured they would with the "move" functionality.)

I started a thread a while ago - PS4 easily takes it :

While the PS4 is definitely more powerful then the Xbox One, if we're going for power, nothing beats the PC. You have better graphics, the ability to mod, the ability to play at higher res and framerates. The argument is there that PCs are more expensive, but the price difference isn't significant if you assemble a PC, and learning to do that isn't very tough, IMO. There are plenty of sites on the Internet which not only enable you to check whether individual parts are compatible with each other, but also enable you to see their price. And there are many forums which offer help on understanding how build a PC. The people on r/buildapc or Tom's Hardware are always willing to help, and you could take help from me also.
