Just watched Mad Max: Fury Road.
I've started my first-ever viewing of "The West Wing" courtesy of Netflix. This series is beautifully, and for the most part realistically done, although I question a few of the plot elements. (I've only gotten as far as the Presidential Classroom episode--no spoilers, please!)

In the meantime, can you or anyone else recommend an analog to The West Wing? Eventually it will run out of episodes, and I'd rather like to be prepared. . . .

Pretty good movie.
The analogy of the car and the tree was sort of beautiful, in a stoner metaphor kind of way.
The whole way through I'm thinking... I want to watch Gross Point Blank again.

It's made in 1987 with a gay character in the main cast who is not a horrific stereotype or there for comic effect. Although I suppose after playing a pretend-gay man on NBC for 7 years, John pretty much owed the LGBT community an apology... Or it's just a pleasant coincidence?

HIjol, I had two very different experiences with "House of Cards." I could not stop watching the British version; dark though it was, it pulled me along anyway. On the other hand, I could barely make it through the first hour of the American version; from the very first scene, it was so much darker that I could hardly believe what I was seeing. (Again, I won't post spoilers here.)

At the risk of sounding philosophical, how do you define good scripts that are written well for adults? I see so much material out there that relies on little more than crassness and shock value, and The West Wing isn't like that. (Nor is Trek, for that matter.)
What are your thoughts?
I watched the first two seasons of the American version with Kevin Spacey. I found/find the series compelling and well-written and acted.

I have been watching an episode of Sisters for the last 30 minutes about a gay teacher who the school board is trying to chuck because they found out that he has AIDS... and I only just noticed that the teacher is Raphael Sbarge who is shockingly hiding his identity with a full head of hair. I'm not sure if I qualify as an adult, or even a smart child any more.
Compared to other Prime time drama in 1999 (ER, Chicago Hope, The Soprano's, etc etc.), the West Wing is not that much better than the other wares in the business, it's probably just that they were speaking half a Gilmore faster than the competition because Aaron was on a lot of Cocaine for the first two seasons, and he was writing the show for other cocaine addicts.

I found this show down a youtube rabbit hole because Paget Brewster is sometimes the most beautiful woman in the universe who was playing Swoozie Curts daughter in something else, because I was binging Sisters starring Swoozie Curts, but do you know what my most sexualized takeaway form watching the pilot of the sitcom "The Trouble with Normal"?
