2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

That's not a terrible depth move; he's a free agent after this season and he provides some flexibility for when Fowler needs a spell. He has a terrible allergy to walks and a really bad strikeout problem, but will probably be a semi-decent player off the bench, particularly in the series against both the Cardinals and the Pirates.

It's kind of crazy that three teams in the NL Central have at least a semi-plausible chance of winning 100 games (the Cubs won't, but I can dream) and one of them will be staying home in October.

Shelby Miller, 7 innings, 1 earned run...and another loss. Almost four months now since his last win.

As if we needed any more evidence that pitcher wins are a completely meaningless and worthless statistic.

The BBWAA has a lot of faults, but the majority of its voting members still placing a huge emphasis on wins is probably one of its worst.

There are times I think they could win 100, then they give up 13 runs to the Reds and I'm suddenly not as sure.

Pitching staffs, bullpens in particular, have never been a strong suit of Epstein, and I think that's going to be the main issue down the stretch -- Epstein learned from Beane that relievers are fungible, but he doesn't seem to have developed Beane's sixth sense for relievers who can be lights-out for a year then be flipped because the peripherals are warning signs.

Hammel's wheels have clearly fallen off, and the rest of the rotation behind Lester and Arrieta is ... well, more than a bit of a mess. Haren sucks out loud and Hendricks is a Jekyll / Hyde kind of guy. Strop and Rondon are the only guys in the pen that I have any measure of faith in.

Maybe they can pull it together, but grabbing scraps from the dumpster like Rodney are not the answer.

Every time I see Josh Donaldson hit a homer, I die a little inside.

The fucking Cubs drafted him; I get depressed about that every time I see a David Ross at-bat.

But, yeah, that has to be one of Beane's worst trades. As a 30-year-old prospect, that's a really hard guy to do any sort of projection on, but I'm pretty sure every single team in the league, even the fucking Yankees with their tire fire of a farm, could have beaten the Toronto package last year.

Isn't that the beauty of the game and the deal? Who gives a flying f_ck about last year. It's right now that counts, and while a hundred and one things can derail them (and up here we are keeping our fingers crossed that doesn't happens), the Jays finally made some moves that put them in contention. That's a far cry from what the owners have done in the past. We'll see if it continues.

Paul Beeston is "retiring" and Mark Shapiro was reportedly hired as his successor long before the official announcement a few days ago, so I'm guessing that with Shapiro's history of wheeling and dealing he may have been the impetus behind the Jays being hard buyers at the deadline.

If only because the Jays' moves were completely opposite to AA's history of "get every AAAA-level reliever ever."

Absolutely right!

Maybe now we'll deal for a long term contract (read Price here). Lord knows the Roger's family can afford it. Bums are again filling the seats at Skydome (I don't like the other name), viewers of Sportsnet is skyrocketing, and licensed merchandise is being scooped up at a record pace. All money that's floating back into Roger's pockets. Surely, by now, they can make the connection that a winning team is a sure fire way to fill their coffers with wads of cash. After all, that's all Rogers is really concerned about.

So when do the Jays get that natural grass field?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The Cubs won't really turn the corner until they figure out how to beat crappy teams.

Phillies, Marlins, Reds, they've all had their way with the Cubs this year.

I hoped the post-ASG surge would have included the ability to beat these teams.

I recognize you trolling Castro but it was apparently in response to a 'fan' saying his no-no wasn't a no-hitter due to the hit/error judgment.

Arrieta doesn't seem to have an issue understanding how the reply function on Twitter works.

Nor does he seem to have an issue talking to someone instead of subtweeting them.

And the legit response is, it wasn't one person due that reply but a bunch of Dodger fans who'd been complaining on twitter.

The plan is for natural grass in 2018 but, besides money, there are a lot of hurdles to overcome. There is a plan to have a dirt infield in place for next year.

This is a good read.

The best idea is having a translucent shell on the dome to let the natural light in. I was at a night game against the Yankees a few weeks ago with the dome closed and it was dark and felt like I was trapped.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The Cubs had a great offensive game today, winning 14-5, including 4 homers and 4 bases loaded walks.

I hope they're back on track after the last week and a half.
