TNG Remastered finally comes to Netflix Streaming

Netflix versions will be adding some VFX fixes that were absent on the blu rays..

 

Such minor changes. There were still things they could have fixed.

 

I'm perfectly happy with my imperfect Blu-ray discs.

 

I've ripped every disc to my hard drive, and I have "fixed" season 2 myself through extensive editing and color correction. Also fixed several errors and inferior effects shots from other seasons. So I'm good.

 

Cool that they actually fixed some errors for streaming/broadcasting. If there's anything I'd like fixed in S2, it's just to get rid of the DNR that was apparent whenever a special effect took place. I find that more distracting than anything else. Probably too much to ask for, oh well.

 

I wonder if Netflix did any secret fixes like they did with Voyager.

This is awesome news. I wonder if fixing things for streaming means that the eventual complete series set will fix everything that needs fixing?

 

You realize that complete series sets are just what has already been released put in one box?

 

Not always; wasn't the ginormous box of TNG on DVD all new DVDs?

It usually takes a reissue or two for that to happen, though.

 

Why is Netflix getting the credit for this? It was CBS that provided them with the masters and it was CBS that revised them. In some ways, the Blu-ray buyers were beta testers for these restorations, and CBS addressed issues that were found. I wouldn't be surprised if these same revised digital masters were on iTunes and Amazon Prime.

Now how far these fixes go is an intriguing premise. What if CBS found the missing footage that's upscaled standard def on the Blu-rays?

I'll probably watch my DVDs as long as they work... no need to change the original look and feeling.

 

I'm hoping any upscaled footage (how much is there) will be fixed for the inevitable complete set.

There has to be one! And I'm sure DS9 and the rest will follow, just maybe not right away. But streaming is the future, and no one wants to stream SD. But make it HD, and everyone will want to watch. Throw some blu-rays out for the hardcore fans, and you're all set.

 

I have been wondering the same.

For some reason Netflix has a big part of the mindshare. When some people think streaming or modern video in general, they think Netflix.


According to comments on Trekcore, these corrected versions have been available for quite some time, for example for purchase on iTunes.
I guess the versions on Amazon are "corrected" as well, and I should also check my local broadcasts.

I think you are overestimating ow much people care for HD.

 

There already is one..... in the UK and Australia. Just not the USA. And no, it just compiles together the existing discs, it doesn't remaster them again (and I doubt CBS-D would do so anyway).

Not to say it can't happen, of course.....

 

They obviously have new masters they've been tinkering with.

Four Star Trek series are available in HD on Netflix (TOS, TAS, TNG, ENT), so DS9 and VOY are outliers. Seems weird that stays like that forever.

 

Awesome. I bought some of the Blu-Ray sets, but money is tighter now so I am very glad to see it is on Netflix. I have been introducing my non-trek wife to Star Trek starting at the beginning, and we are nearly through TNG season 4 now.

 

Wasn't there a problem converting DS-9 to HD - CBS didn't think there was enough of a market to go through the expense so they shelved the project?

 

I've been plowing through Season 5 on Netflix... don't have the disc set yet, so I'm taking advantage of the 'flix to continue my rewatch.... and man, I don't know if it's the online streaming or if this is just another case of the Blu-Ray team not finding something and having to upscale the DVD, but it's really, really obviously bad in "The First Duty."

It's really apparent right affer the big speech Picard gives, and oh man, what a drop!











I guess one could chalk it up to the mood lighting in the ready room scene but compared to the Academy exterior scene (which is just sparkling!) it's really a harsh, abrupt cut and adjustment to make here.
