Hi! My name is Joey (I'm a girl Joey!), I'm 25, and I just joined today. These forums look awesomely active, so I'm really happy to be here! I've only been a Trek fan for a few months, but I've found it so easy (and scarily satisfying) to immerse myself in this amazing universe. I hope to be here for a long, long time!

My favourite series are TOS and TNG, but I have a soft spot for TAS that I'm maybe led to believe is not universally shared. :P I've seen enough of Voyager to know that I do like it, and that I'm a big fan of Neelix! Also not an opinion I've been led to believe is popular, lol.

My husband is a life-long Trek fan and I have him to thank for getting me here! In real life, I'm a part-time illustrator. My house is full of cats and dogs, and I like to play Pokemon and Harvest Moon. :)

That's about it for now; looking forward to posting!

Hello I started watching STAR TREK a couple of years ago probably as a side effect of becoming an amateur astronomer.

I've seen and own (on DVD) all the films apart from INTO DARKNESS. I've seen some episodes from all 6 TV series and slowly working my way through buying all the episodes on DVD.

Greetings! I live in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, and I came to Trek through TOS via Netflix a little over two years ago. Midway through the second season, an idea for what ultimately became a longish Spock TOS novella reached out and grabbed me, at which point I became a stalwart Trek fan. My favorite series are TOS and DS9 for excellent characterization, with Enterprise being the runner-up.

I very much enjoy writing TOS dialogue, and I would greatly appreciate the chance to collaborate with someone or someones to write a story and/or script--and have fun doing it! (Thinking rather wistfully of Star Trek Continues.) If you're intrigued, let's talk!

Personal info: I'm a 42-year-old copy chief/professional editor (though not of fiction) by day and a writer, reader, and poster by night. My other loves are contra dancing, Renaissance polyphony, and an otherwise eclectic assortment of music ranging from Balkana to Bach.

BlueMoon, I see that we're fellow Spock aficionados:

I'm inclined to agree with you, in part because Star Trek made such effective use of archetypes and was well ahead of its time in many respects. (IMO, mind-melding is a spiritual undertaking all on its own.)

Did you know that Nimoy was a method actor? As such, he couldn't just play Spock--he had to become Spock. And he did such a thorough job of it that he had difficulties in his personal life as a result. In I Am Not Spock, he wrote dialogues between himself and Spock. And even more interestingly, he displayed character traits in his own accounting of himself that (in my reading at least) mirrored Spock's own.

    As do I.

Spock as archetype. Perfect fit. I think one of the reasons TOS worked as well as it did was the aptness of the Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic: Spock's logic, McCoy's emotionalism, and Kirk's mediation and intuition combined to produce a working whole.

Most interesting. Or shall I say fascinating?

Hello trekkies! I am excited to reengage with the online community. I was active on the trek boards years ago in my college days, but then Enterprise happened and Nemesis happened and I graduated and life took hold and I thought I'd better just leave my trekkie days behind me. lol

But I must admit I have (mostly) enjoyed the new movies, and I recently rewatched Voyager end-to-end and was happy to find it wasn't as disappointing as I remembered it. Then I rewatched DS9 again, and was not at all surprised that I still adored all of it. And then I swallowed my pride and watched Enterprise and made it past season one, after which I loved it. So, faith somewhat restored!

And looking ahead, I am planning to attend the Trek50 convention next year in Vegas. So I thought it would be fun to find some fellow conventioners who might want to get together when we're there (I'll be flying solo).

    So, here I am.

ps - I love the :cardie: emoticon! Who bonked Dukat on the spoon? LOL

Hi, svenden. I've been thinking about attending the Trek convention in Vegas next year myself. Let's catch up sometime!

    And yes, DS9 was excellent.

I've always wanted to go to one of the mega-cons, so this seems the perfect chance. (FYI, the Rio is already taking reservations.)

Good to see you can still enjoy your old favorites and find new appreciation for the others this time round, svenden. It's kind of like finding cash in the laundry - right?

Hey all. A huge Trek fix has recently come over me. And upon checking, sure enough, still no word on any new show in the works. So I decided it was time to find a support group to lean on in these dark times. That's were you all come in. :-)

So I'm a big time, lifelong Trekker: my mother fed me my bottle while we watched TOS reruns in the 70's, so I really never had a choice in the matter. I could identify, summarize, and mostly recite every episode based on any 3-sec clip by the time I was 5. I'm sure the experience has given me unresolved freudian issues.

I love all Trek. As they say, a bad day of Trek is better than a good day of... well, most other Sci-fi I suppose. I have my favorites, like VOY, and I'm often vocally critical of the abortions that are ST5 and Into Darkness, but it's all in the spirit of tough love and ultimately with the hope that Trek can get better and PROPERLY evolve with the times.

I was really glad, and somewhat surprised to find a very active Trek forum. I look forward to lively debates and sharing ideas with everyone.

    Cheers!

As opposed to laundered money? ;)

Hmm . . . how would you define "properly" in the context of Trek's evolution? (Might you consider that a question for lively debate?)

I would Anna... I would indeed.

Am I correct to assume I could find or host such a discussion in the Future Trek section?

To quote our favorite Vulcan out of context, I believe the answer might be yes. :)

    Hi everyone,

I am an Star Trek fan from Germany and mostly interested in recent Trek literature (well, that's because I translate it for German publisher Cross Cult ;) ). I also like the old Star Trek RPG from Decipher and collect the Starships from Eaglemoss.

I hope to find some interesting discussions here and perhaps answers to some very special (i.e. Nerd) questions that arise occasionally while translating and playing Star Trek. ;)

Hello, good to have a translator aboard......;)

The authors are most interested what's going on in other countries as to their novels, at least regarding the translations of titles.

I definitely have read some of your translated Star Trek novels.... (TNG, if I'm not mistaken) ;)

I'm very slow to read books in English, but sometimes I can't wait for them to be released in German. Like Atonement for instance. Kirsten Beyer appreciates it when foreign people read her novels in English. :)

And CrossCult likes it, when German readers read Kirsten's books in German, so they can sell more (and buy new ones). ;) But it's not my job to advocate reading translated books. Everyone should do it, as he likes.

In most cases I read them both in German and English. Good for Simon & Schuster and Cross Cult.

Sadly, German TOS novels don't sell well enough. For most of the unpublished novels I have to resort to the originals....

I looked for an introduction thread when I first logged on but didn't find it till now. I've been a fan almost since birth thanks to my parents. I dig most iterations of Trek, though I'll admit to not liking Voyager and to not having seen most of DS9. I just didn't care for either of those series. I also have an insatiable desire to talk Trek. I build models, mainly Trek. I collect the odd starship toy and phasers too.

    Hi.

I'm from Scotland, been a fan of Star Trek since I started watching TNG on BBC in the 90's. Been on a recent kick of watching TNG, Voyager and DS9 on Sci-Fi, so thought I'd join up. Surprised I've never done this in the past to honest.
