Star Trek: Renegades

I notice on the website you can still 'back' the project to get a copy of the DVD/Bluray and the download, but not just the download?

I'd consider backing for the latter - but not paying shipping and postage for the former, so slightly frustrated.

You can get just the Digital Download, it's $25 go to this page to see the donation options.

http://startrekrenegades.com/home/donate/

Digital Downloads will be available for all donation levels $25 and above, on Sunday August 15th. DVD and Blu Rays will start to be shipped out in mid September.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding here, so bear with me.

Why, if the film is complete, must one spend $25 as a donation in order to get a digital copy of the completed film? What is that money needed for? Where are these "donations" going?

I thought the two Kickstarters you guys held covered everything? Or did you guys go over budget?

More to the point: will ever there be a distribution of this film that is free to the viewing public, that will not require a "donation" ?

Yes we had to go over budget. Nothing really major but we are still paying for things relating tot he production.

STR will be free for the public. We plan to put it on our YouTube channel. The exact date of that is still being discussed. We want to get the backer perks all squared away so we can wrap up the pilot.

The more I see of CBS being hands off with the Star Trek IP, the more convinced I become that there won't be a new series in the foreseeable future, if ever.

I was looking at the pictures from the Renegades premiere, complete with a table full of merchandise for sale.

The digital downloads of Renegades is apparently now available to those who donated $25 or more. I didn't love the preview I saw in June, but I'm still interested to see the finished film, and maybe I'll enjoy it more the second time around. :)

Another review that's a few days old. Not much of anything in terms of spoilers; at least, nothing that isn't already out there or couldn't be inferred from trailers:

Pretty spot on review of Renegades.

Now if they would publish a budget to justify needing more money. I don't mind giving them more if I know where the previous money has been spent. But right now it is a big black hole.

Axanar has set the standard here and it would be nice if others followed suit.

Ugh. More blogosphere faux-journalism posing and laziness:

Not long before Gene Roddenberry’s death in 1991, Calk claimed the ”Star Trek” creator asked him to keep the ”Star Trek” name alive, and as history shows, fan devotion did the rest.

Just this week I read over at the Axanar PR machine/website, quoting from the Renegades premiere in Los Angeles last week, that it was Sky Conway who met with Roddenberry before his death, and who was told to keep the franchise going:

I’ll end this blog entry the way Sky Conway ended his introduction before the screening…
“Back in 1991, I got to know Gene Roddenberry pretty well when he was home ill… in the last six months of his life. Three days before Gene passed away, he called up Nichelle Nichols and me and asked us to come over to say ‘hello’. Majel met us at the door, and she wheeled in Gene. He had suffered numerous strokes. A long conversation took place between Gene and Nichelle – very sweet- and Nichelle did not know at the time that Gene was saying ‘good-bye’. And then he turned to me, as we were walking out of the house, and said, ‘Keep my dream alive.’

Well, which is it? Never mind that it's a pretty goddamn big pill to swallow, these damn bloggers need to seriously invest some goddamn time in getting their quotes straight and for the love of God, fact-check!

I mean guys, come on...

It’s clear the team behind the movie loves the ”Star Trek” name, and diehard fans are likely to be far more forgiving of the flaws than most (when Robert Picardio showed up as the fan favourite holographic Dr Zimmerman,

For fuck's sake. Who is writing this shit?

Where´s the problem?

Renegades have, apparently, announced that they will be producing 12 episodes a year.

I say apparently because my email is down so I haven't received the announcement, so I am presently just repeating what others have posted online.

I'm quite curious to hear if they're going to crowdfund those episodes, or if they have something else in mind. Either way, I really, really hope they re-think those Starfleet uniforms. And hire a hard ass script editor. :)

If this is on the level, I guess some people will be eating crow...

But, 12 épisodes per year...that's a lot of scripts, hopefully GOOD scripts to come up with...that AIN'T easy

Starfleet weren't going to keep the FC uniforms forever - They should introduce the Online uniforms or the famed 'monster grey' uniforms which reformat the First Contacts into the TWOK style jackets http://fleet31.com/uniforms/monstergrays/

But I'm glad this will be a change from the TOS era films now Hidden Frontier is over, another series with Intrepid taking the 24th Century forward.
