X-Files Revival Officially Ordered at Fox

Anybody know when we can expect to start seeing more footage?

Your guess is as good as mine tbh. Fox is being awfully tight lipped about it and just as troll like lately . Ugh. They have some awful promo people there imo.

What do you guys want? The thing doesn't even air for another 6 months!

A bit of positivity. What they've been doing so far has been driving fans away.

And that isn't good for them either.

What I said isn't meant to be a complaint tbh. More like frustration (hence the smiley I used in the post).

Been trying to keep a similar attitude to what JWPlatt mentioned above for the most part though. I don't expect anything more from them until such time.

How do you drive fans away from something that hasn't aired yet?

I mean, they're only making 6 episodes, and they're still casting people for roles. How much new footage do you guys actually think there is?

Here's one example of doing just that.

Straight from Fox's X Files twitter account.

Fair point. Probably not much. But even posting some positive footage from the old show of those who are going to be in it would be a good start.

I just think it's too early to be criticizing the ad campaign. The internet has spoiled us into thinking we're supposed to be shown every little detail of every production. Give it some time. We'll get more eventually.

Fair point. But I still think they're being a BIT too harsh towards the fans. Been planning on doing so tbh. Didn't expect anything new from them at least for awhile at least.

Bingo. I don't get this weird modern attitude that we're entitled to know every detail of every upcoming production months in advance.

"But the show comes out a year from now and the trailer didn't reveal anything that hasn't already been spoiled on the internet!"

There was a day (he says, channeling his inner curmudgeon) when we just watched stuff when it came out and decided whether we liked it afterwards. We didn't expect total transparency regarding every stage of the production, or daily spy photos, leaked scripts, and spoilers.

(Granted, there were magazines like Famous Monsters and Starlog that occasionally hyped upcoming movies, but that was pretty much it.)

Heck never held that attitude myself tbh. Never liked when people have that kind of attitude. It's really off putting.

That was me too, back when the XF was originally on. Had no internet access. So it was a wait and see. Still is.

I hope it's not too soon to hope they can do more after these 6? I'd like a few seasons of that. But they may have something really climactic happening that would make that impossible.

My only hope is that it ends when they want it to end. If it's only these 6 episodes, then I want these 6 episodes to have a definitive conclusion.

I'm not expecting to see tons of huge revealing trailers with detail plot info, I was just kind of surprised we haven't seen more is all.
The Expanse airs in December and we've gotten two full trailers and an interview video. Granted that's based on a popular book, so their might not be as much need for secrecy since the people who are going to be the most interested already know what happens.

I agree. I think if they become successful though they will order more. I don't think we will see either of our heroes die. It looks like these will be self contained episodes with maybe a story thread running through them. I hope they actually wait for the ratings to decide if they will make more. If they only make 10 to 15 a year like most quality show these day I will be more than happy to watch them.

I believe it's been said that the first and last episodes are part of the mythology arc, and the rest are self-contained Monster of the Week episodes.

In any event, if Fox does decide it wants to order more, it will depend heavily on the availability of the cast. Gillian Anderson is extremely busy right now, and Duchovny has Aquarius to schedule around (and he has made enough "fuck you" money to not do a project unless he really wants to).

Gillian didn't even really want to do this season in the first place. She mostly agreed to it because, after the second movie, they never really got a chance to say goodbye. I'm assuming this season will provide a lot of closure.

Exactly. Both Chris and David convinced her to do so iirc. I hope that it does and that it's done in a good way.

As I understand it, Fox approached Carter because the 24 thing went over like gangbusters, Carter approached both Duchovny and Anderson, and Anderson said she'd do it if they could find a way to fit in her schedule, hence the six-episode miniseries (I think Carter was originally wanting nine or ten episodes but it was just logistically impossible).
