X-Files Revival Officially Ordered at Fox

Wasn't there supposed to be an alien invasion / endgame on Dec. 21, 2012, or something?

Yes, I think we lost.

FYI: There's also a new series of X-FILES short-story collections, edited by Jonathan Maberry. The first volume just came this week and the second is scheduled for February.

And I just got word that I'm going to have a story in Vol. 2. Yippee!

Wow, that's great Greg. I'd like to read that.

I had too much fun writing Mulder and Scully, especially Scully whose skeptical, long-suffering worldview is a closer match to my own.

"Mulder, you can't be serious. Are you really suggesting that . . ..?"

On the other hand, Scully needs a slap upside the head for ignoring what's in front of her face, and especially for lying prone while a honking big alien spacecraft passes 100 meters over her head. Or maybe its Chris Carter - I haven't decided who needs it more.

True, but your heart has go out to poor Scully. Here she is, a scientist, coupled with a partner who has apparently never heard of Occam's Razor.

"Think about it, Scully. What if what actually happened here is that a time-travelling wendigo from an alternate universe deliberately caused this accident in order to fulfill an ancient Mayan prophecy . . . ."

"Or, Mulder, maybe it was just a drunk driver."

They need to do a Castle/X-Files crossover. Scully and Beckett could bond over being stuck with partner who constantly comes up with crazy theories, and one of Castle's crazy theories finally be right. Castle's already done invisibility/stealth suits, lazer guns, and a possible time traveler so it wouldn't be as ridiculous as it sounds. IMO it would at least work better than the Bones/Sleepy Hollow one.

One of my other favorite Scullyisms, "Mulder is there anything you don't believe in?"

Great news, Greg! Volume 2 should come out during the revival's airing, so the timing is perfect.

Can you tells us when your story is set? In-series, post-series, post-IWtB, etc.?

I'd vote for the latter tbh. At least as of late.

I feel sorry for Scully, but I also feel sorry for Mulder. Because some of the writing decisions have been... questionable at best. IWTB notwithstanding though. At least up to a point was ok. Who's the daddy in s8 on the other hand... so not.

To honest, I'm not sure how much I can talk about it yet. The finalized list of contributors was just announced yesterday, so I'm going to be coy here. But here are the titles of the first two volumes:

Volume One: Trust No One
Volume Two: The Truth is Out There

Understandable.

My copy of the first volume was delivered last week and I was happy to see the stories set in a nice range of time frames, from in-series to present day. Hopefully, the next volume continues this open format.

Gillian's aged better than David.
She's had some work done.

But why is Mulder still calling her "Scully" in the released clip - her last name? You'd think they'd be on a first name basis by now and after having a child together...

Additionally, you may have heard The Lone Gunman will make an appearance in the series and folks are wondering how they'll explain that one, since they all "died" at the end of their series. So maybe as ghosts, or maybe their deaths were faked, blah, blah, in-universe explanation, blah, blah...

I have no problem just totally ignoring their supposed deaths in The Lone Gunman series. As in, it never happened. Just like Newt, Hicks and Bishop and Alien 3 never happened.

With things like this, you just film a director’s 10-second statement at the beginning of the film saying, “A lot of fans were disappointed when we snuffed your favorite X-Files supporting characters in our Lone Gunmen series. Yeah, we made a mistake. Sorry. As we move forward, it never happened. We hope you enjoy our show.” Don’t even try to do a "Dallas" on it (where the whole thing was a dream).

It's personal to them, the whole last name thing. They DO NOT like being called by their first names. Heck I find it far more intimate than them using 'Fox and Dana' tbh.

Bizarre. Well then, I'd like a source where they expressed that mutual wish, between just the two of them, in the show. e.g., "Just between us, let's just continue to use our last names with each other - it's so much more intimate."

I have old college buddies that I still address by their surnames. "Jenkins, you old son-of-a-bitch, how you doing?"

That kind of thing.

And the women with whom you've had children? People at work you see every week day at least? Friends you see very frequently?

Okay, how about a fair test because real life isn't fiction - how about the characters in your writings other than X-Files (in a universe with characters solely created by you - it's understood you need to abide by the rules of Carter's universe) who have shared bodily fluids within a constant relationship over a course of years that produced a child and where they placed their very lives in each others hands? Anything similar?

Oh, I grant that it's unusual, but Scully and Mulder hardly have a typical relationship . . . .

And how about:

"Hand over those jewels, Catwoman!"

"Don't try and stop me, Batman!" :)

Well that's just professional courtesy. They don't want risk revealing the other's secret identity if someone happens to overhear their conversation.

I admit I stopped watching BONES ages ago, but didn't they routinely refer to each other as "Bones" and "Booth" or whatever?

And what about the couple on CASTLE? I seem to recall that they refer to each other as "Castle" and "Beckett" most of the time.

"What on Earth do you think you're doing, Castle?"

But if we're talking intimacy, maybe Scully and Mulder only use "Dana" and "Fox" in their most intimate moments?

Kind of like the way Spock only calls Kirk "Jim" under extreme circumstances. :)
