Trailer for SyFy's The Expanse

Don't know anything about the books. I actually never heard of them until right now.

Trailer looks okay. I couldn't really get a good feel for who the characters were supposed to be, but the general concept seems interesting enough.

Gone a bit young with the casting. Though I don't recall any ages being given in the books, Amos and Alex are written as a lot older than Holden (Alex spending at least 20 years as a military pilot).

You're right, the books don't really give any definite ages for anyone, though I always imagined Captain Holden as older than the actor they've cast, and the actor playing Fred Johnson is a lot younger than I got the impression the character was meant to be with all the backstory that goes with him.

I just finished the first book earlier tonight. Holden came across to me as being in his early thirties, so Steven Strait (who turns 29 next month) is fine by me. I do agree with the guys they chose for Amos and Alex, though. Amos in particular; the actor doesn't really look anything like how I pictured the character.

I really hope that the show's take on Alex at least still has a cowboy twang.

I am excited for this. Another space-set series without lasers and weapons fired in space with space ship battles. It is a thriller so it will be somewhat like Ascension from December 2014 on Syfy.
Something I really like is in April 2014 Syfy gave a straight-to-series greenlight for space-opera project The Expanse
The 10-episode order and it went into production in late October 2014 in Toronto, CA. This means that this series has been written and probably done shooting by later Winter long before it will air. That is a vacuum. No viewer feedback during production. Nothing to change for season 1.

Last time I checked there was no air date for the series in it's wiki entry.

Something else with the books - there's nothing to really date them Closed I can recall coming across was a reference to 22nd Century film Noir in the same sort of manner we use the expression - that it's something from an age gone by.

As for Ascension (which started a couple of weeks back on the CBC), I think they've borrowed their door chimes from the U.S.S Voyager :)

Regarding the time in which the series takes place, my best guess is the early 2200s, assuming the Epstein drive was developed in the mid-21st century, which is the implication I got from the text.

I would definitely understand if they dropped that. It's the sort of thing that could easily end up being too distracting if not handled right.
True, I'd rather it not be there at all than have it handled wrong, but if it isn't in the show I hope they at least tried it and decided it didn't work, rather than ignored it altogether.

Huh? Granted, there are no lasers, but there are certainly space battles. Just with the ships spitting ordinance, bullets and the like at each other. Trust me, even if it were only loosely based on the books, there will certainly be no shortage of spaceships being blown up.

Honestly I can't help but think that judging by the posts around Trek BBS about this show that some people are going to be disappointed.

Honestly can't wait for this now. It has the potential to be the best SF we've seen.
RAMA

nice to see they've finally given a rough release date for it - but still have to wait until December :(

New Comic-Con trailer.

I'm definitely going to have to check out the books.

I'm looking forward to this so much. I've read the first two books, and they're great, and the show looks very good. Sucks that we have to wait until December, though. :(

That just gives you time to finish the rest of the books. :)

Ha! Yeah, I think the sixth one just recently came out. So at least the show (assuming it lasts) will have plenty of material to draw on. :D
