Earlier this week I got the new complete collection of Batman: Cataclysm. I've been wanting to read No Man's Land for ages, but I wanted to read Cataclysm first, and since they have the new collection I decided to grab it.

How important are Legacy and Contagion? Can I do just Cataclysm and NML and not be lost?

I think those had almost nothing to do with the earthquake storyline.

Ok, I wasn't sure since I saw a reference to them on the Wikipedia article for Cataclysm.

It was basically one more bad thing that happened to Gotham right before the earthquake as I recall, but had nothing directly to do with the storyline.

"Legacy" and "Contagion" set up the conditions that Gotham suffers through prior to "Cataclysm". They're not really absolutely necessary to follow the latter or "No Man's Land" but they do set up the tone of the arc and give an impression of the tone of the books at the time.

It's not a reset.

Most of the character changes such as with Thor, Cap and Iron Man (him being adopted) will still be there.

I read it this afternoon. I'm really enjoying the story and the art is just fantastic.

I opened the cover of the first issue, flipped through it, and promptly put it back on the shelf. This is not the Airboy I wanted or expected.

In Issue 2, Airboy thinks that it is an evil plot by super villains that he was tricked into getting a blow job from a woman with a penis.

I read that there was a bit of a kerfuffle over how trans people were treated in that issue.

I finished up Preludes & Nocturnes, the first Sandman collection. Overall I really enjoyed it, but it wasn't the mindblowing experience I was expecting. I do see why The Sound of Her Wings did get so much, that was probably the best issue in the collection. It's definitely one of the most interesting takes on Death and death I've ever come across.

Not really?

%70 of the male adults who have time traveled from 1943 to 2015, are always going react with a massive wad of culture shock.

Normal for 1943.

1. Gays should be lynched, and beaten to death when first identified.

2. Gays who are identified, but manage to be apprehended by the the law before they are completely beaten to death, need to be publicly executed or sent to jail where they are finally beaten to death almost immediately.

The first book was trying to blend horror and super heroes, for an audience that was not ready for Gaimen's "true vision" of indulgent self plumbing.

After my other post I decided to star Fantastic Four: World's Greatest, the first Miller/Hitch collection. After just a handful of pages I'm already loving the character banter.
