"Enterprise" or "Star Trek: Enterprise"?

I also would have preferred it to stay Enterprise, to keep with what was started and the idea that it is before the original series and the Federation. ST:E sounds too redundant, some of the other spin-offs somewhat do also but it's worse for a prequel.

Technically, it's no more redundant than Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Star Trek: Voyager, but I still like it better without it.

Neither of those is redundant, though, because the two parts say different things. A viewer hearing about a show named Deep Space Nine or Voyager for the first time would never think it was connected to Star Trek if that weren't in the title. That's not true of Enterprise, though; it's a name that most of us already associate with Star Trek. And that, I assume, is why suarezguy thinks Star Trek: Enterprise sounds redundant.

^But if you were a TV viewer back in 2001 and you heard about a new science fiction TV series called Enterprise, would you have thought it was about Windows or the US Navy?

There are a lot of ordinary people, who aren't even Trek fans, the type of people who can't even tell the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars who automatically associate Enterprise with spaceship.

Yes, I'm stupid that way. Actually, no, I would have thought it was a PBS Nova special about the Space Shuttle.

Reminds me of "The Divergent Series: Insurgent"
Well, if they just called it "Divergent: Insurgent", you know someone's going to be making jokes about "Detergent".

^ Or that one time on TNG when Picard mentioned the "Klingon Imperial Empire". :guffaw:
Need I point out that "united federation" is also tautological? :)

Are you even a Star Trek fan? ;)

I think the idea was that Enterprise is to Star Trek as, well, Elementary is to Sherlock Holmes.

Here's hoping that never gets retitled Holmes: Elementary. :)

Yes! Ever since 1960-something. I love that Chewbacca fellow. He shot first, you know.

Airing on UPN???
Well, if I only "heard" about it, I wasn't tuning in to watch it on TV yet, was I. What the hell is UPN anyway? I can't find it anywhere.

For every Law & Order and CSI franchise, there are other spinoffs that don't use a blanket title. We didn't get The Six Million Dollar Man: The Bionic Woman or Happy Days: Joanie Loves Chachi or Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Angel or Doctor Who: Torchwood.

Yeah...All in the Family: Maude: Good Times would have been pretty awkward....

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: Xena: Warrior Princess.

Or even: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: Young Hercules.
