Spider-Man: Homecoming' anticipation thread

I don't think I would like that, if they gave us an Iron Man style under the mask view, when they have a close up shot of his head.
But I could see them using The Spidey-sense moments to give us cool Matrix style enhanced reality shots, wer we see reality sort of fade into the background, except for Peter under the mask and the object of focus that presents the danger... Can you picture that?

Kind of like how they do the Spider Sense stuff in the comics? I could see that working. If they really want to show his reaction to something without taking off his mask, maybe they could just do a shot or two where the mask fades away to show whatever it is they want to show, but then fades back in afterwords.

I've been following the casting news closely the past couple months and I really felt Holland was the best choice, so I'm glad.

Darn. I kept hoping it would be Emma Stone. I would have a better time accepting yet another reboot if it were squarely in an alternate universe where Gwen Stacy got bitten by the spider instead of Peter Parker.

As for keeping the new movies separate from the previous movies, I get that. However, I do request that they still have J.K. Simmons play J. Jonah Jameson. He's just so perfect in the role. (And there is precedent for supporting actors playing the same role in different continuities. Alan Hale played Little John in 3 different versions of Robin Hood. Judi Dench played M in both the Pierce Brosnan James Bond movies and in the rebooted Daniel Craig films. Mark Hamill did the voice of the Joker on both the 1990s Batman cartoon as well as the live action series Birds of Prey.)

Yes, visually he gits perfectly, but he should change his interpretation of the character. The cartoonish acting worked in the Raimi movies but I just can't see it in the MCU which despite it's humor never had any ridiculous characters like him. Not even the racoon...

I don't think he's much more ridiculous than the Kat Dennings or Chris O'Dowd characters in the Thor movies, Happy Hogan in Iron Man 2 or Trevor in IM3.

Mark also did the Joker for the Arkham video games, which although they feature a lot of the BTAS cast, are clearly a seperate continuity.

Heck, you can even apply that (sort of) to Luke Skywalker, who Hammil did the voice for both in "canon"(The OT and Force Awakens) but also a brief bit for "Legends" in an ad for the NJO launch novel Vector Prime (Although it wasn't quite "Legends" at that point).

50 isn't old enough to be an aunt? It's not uncommon for 20-somethings with older sibling to become aunts and uncles... making their nephews and nieces high schoolers as they hit their mid-forties.

I don't get the arguments of her being "too young" to be Aunt May. I know many comic versions, and even the movie versions, has an Aunt May in her 60s or older but that doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense, really. Certainly not impossible, it just doesn't make sense.

Tomei is 50, and Peter Parker is going to be 15 in the movies, this'd mean the MCU May was 35 when Peter was born, certainly of the right age where she'd have or would be able to have her own children, probably having had them for several years.

50 isn't "too young" to play Aunt May, I'd argue it's about the right age.

I'm 39 and I have two nieces in Tom Holland's age group and he's playing younger. 50 isn't too young. Not by a long shot.

Makes sense, if they go with the youngest Peter yet to cast a younger Aunt May, too.

But I am looking forward to who they cast as MJ this time... or Gwen... or both.
I can't think of any actresses in that age group that would fit the bill.
it will probably be easier to find a new MJ, topping Kirsten Dunst should not be that hard, but any new gwen will have a hard time stepping out of the shadow of Emma Stone.

I don't think we'll be seeing Gwen again anytime soon. After all, she's been in more Spidey movies than MJ at this point (if one actually stoops to count the SM3 iteration), and there's no reason they couldn't use or even introduce another female character if they didn't want to go straight back to MJ.

Me too, I'm very curious to see if they go with MJ or Gwen. We've had one series with MJ (and a one movie appearance by Gwen) and one series with Gwen (and a cut appearance by MJ), so I'm very curious to see who we get this time.

If you go to TV there are plenty of young actresses on shows on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, but I don't watch them I don't know if any of them can actually act. Most of the other younger actresses I can think of are already in their 20s.

I would have preferred her to be a bit older (maybe not 70 or 80, but certainly 60) just because her age is a major plot point in the comics. But there's no reason an Aunt couldn't be her age. At least she'll be very New York, which isn't too bad.

I was an uncle when I was 13, but Aunt May is traditionally portrayed as being a bit older than that.

For those of us who "met" Aunt May when we were in the single digits, casting someone who is a contemporary is a sobering reminder that time and tide wait for no man...fictional characters on the other hand.
