Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Fallout 3 reference, I'm calling it. Setting will be post-apocalyptic, think ENT's "Storm Front". Space Future Nazis, ahoy!

"PAPERCE, PLEECE"!!!!!

"HMMM...It appearce dat yer pahperce are not in oar-duh!"
Somehow reading that out in my head made me switch to an (even more racist) Japanese accent.

Would that be a "godwin" ?
<said HIjol, showing off his shiny, new Urban Dictionary Knowledge>

I did it for the lulz
<oh, a nicely done two-fer from HIjol!>

:guffaw:

I have to ask, respectfully, how would such enunciations be racist?

The thing is, not everyone speaks perfect English. (Good Lord, you should hear some of the rednecks here in the U.S.A....LOL!) I am sure that one of us who may only have a slight grasp of Japanese (or any other language foreign to English, and even less compatible) would probably sound as approximating and as broken to a foreigner as someone who is just starting to work on their English would sound to an Englishman, or someone from the U.S./Canada.

There's nothing racist about it. Stereotypical? Perhaps. But, racist? Come on. :)

That would be like saying that a Japanese man (perhaps an actor) speaking as an Englishman trying to approximate a Japanese dialect would be racist. I personally would think it was funny. Not on the part of the Japanese actor, but on the fact that it is a reflection of how badly an Englishman (I use that word to simply describe someone who natively speaks English...especially Westernized English... not as an indication of a citizen of Great Britain) might sound trying to speak Japanese, when he/she might have a minimal (if any at all) grasp of the subtleties and nuances of the Japanese language.

Sometimes, we just have to look in the mirror. :)

Hey, SPCTRE I was playing off your "Space Future Nazi" line. If I offended, I am very sorry!

so do you guys want Beyond to end on a cliffhanger or do you think they should tie up everything nicely in a neat little bow? cause i'm hoping for a trek 4.

You don't need a cliffhanger to have a sequel. All you need is a successful movie. Heck, plenty of movies that had definitive endings were then given sequels in spite of it, like the first four Planet of the Apes movies. The second of those ended with the whole world being destroyed, but they still managed to retcon in a sequel. (The only one of the original PotA films that was deliberately left open-ended to allow for a sequel was the fifth one -- i.e. the one that didn't have a sequel.)

One can argue that 3 kinda ended with a cliffhanger with Cesar in Montalban's circus

Perhaps, but there was still a retcon between the third and fourth movies, IIRC. The third movie suggested it would take generations before the ape uprising occurred, but the fourth bumped it up to just 20-ish years later.

If I understood correctly, Cesar's birth changed that. Instead of an evolutionary process over generations that led to more intelligent apes and the uprising, Cesar was highly intelligent already and raised by Armando as an equal to humans and therefor led the uprising earlier than it happend in the original timeline. Not really a retcon, but the history that Cornelius and Zira remembered was drastically changed because of their time travel and the birth of the son.

Exactly.

Aldo, who appears in the fifth movie, was mentioned by Cornelius in the third movie as one of the first, if not the first, ape to speak and to stand up to the humans.

If you want to call fudging the details a "retcon," then the biggest in the series occurs between movie 2 and movie 3. It doesn't matter how great a "genius" Galen was, the ape civilization that we saw in the first two films didn't possess even the rudiments of a technology that would have enabled them to salvage, let alone repair and launch, Taylor's spacecraft.

In Beneath, it also didn't seem to matter that Queensboro Plaza, where Brent and Nova gain entrance to the New York City Subway, is less than ten miles from the Statue of Liberty, present day. That undermines the idea that Taylor and Nova rode on horseback deeper into the Forbidden Zone for the great reveal in the first film. Instead, it makes it seem like they rode back towards Ape City. You can say, oh, the Statue of Liberty must have gotten washed downstream or somehow moved, but really the writers didn't given a damn about scale. All the action in Beneath seems to take place in only a few square miles, as if Ape City is in Brooklyn and Manhattan is the Forbidden Zone.

Seeing Quinto preparing for Spock with the hair reminds me of this time I saw a magazine interview with Nimoy in about 85 (when it wasn't clear if there was even going to be another film) and there was a pic of him doing the interview and he had the hair cut almost in the Spock style but not quite and the eyebrows were done just abit and I remember thinking 'he's getting ready to do another Star Trek!' (this was obviously before the constant movie news we have today, back then as a kid i didn't read Starlog every month so would just happen upon news of new movies in various magazines, newspapers etc)

Ok starting to think there might actually be a movie:D

Is it just the filter, or does Quinto's Spock 'do look shorter this time?

would be cool if Spock gets a new haircut  like it still looks like the bowl vulcan haircut just his hair is shorter and I wouldn't mind it if they kept it like that in the movie.

about time. unleash trek 3.:bolian:
