Fallout 4

If Fallout 4 is in the works, then I am waiting with bated breath. I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

I think, if there's one thing I would wish out of the Fallout series, and I realize this may sound heretical, or even blasphemous to those who are fans of the series:

I never really liked the idea that the world somehow remained in arrested cultural development past the 1950's when the nuclear war took place (I believe) in 2077. I wish they'd gone to at least an arrested development from...oh...I dunno... 1987. :D

I understand the aesthetic.... it's meant to sort of resemble a 1950's/60's idea of a futuristic post-holocaust nation.

But, to do that would disrupt the story and timeline as well for Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

If wishes were horses then dreamers would ride. (But wishes are really more like cattle...so break out the shovels.) LOL!

I thought that while Fallout 3 had its problems and that most liked New Vegas better, I actually preferred the narrative and gameplay of F3. New Vegas did have better theme though, and it was really a lot of fun seeing many of the locations I had visited on my trip out west, including Zion. Looking forward to whatever Fallout 4 ends up being.

Directly into my veins.

I skipped New Vegas (I love Obsidian's work, I just never got around to it), so it's been about six years since I had my last fix.

So what setting are we all hoping for this time? New York? Chicago? A return to the NCR? Maybe something in the rural mid-west for a more flat, bleak or wintery setting?

Ukraine. Basically, give me Stalker.

Seriously, rural mid-west sounds good. I could also go for the Pacific Northwest (think: Alan Wake, Deadly Premonition).

Bethesda has officially revealed Fallout 4 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

The game's official website now shows box art for Fallout 4 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. This confirms that the next entry is current-gen only, and will not be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Although it also features a video, presumably with a cinematic trailer, this is not available to watch yet. The video is scheduled to go live 7 AM PT (3 PM UK time)

Looks like Gamespot broke their embargo a little ahead of time. The countdown hasn't finished yet and that video they link to is still set to "private". I'm sure Bethesda's PR people will be having words with them. ;)

ETA: My mistake, it's the official site that went live early. In which case it's the IT people that get to have a friendly chat with PR.

Which is all academic now since the trailer is now up. ;)

Random thoughts: -
Dog companion - CHECK
Power Armour, verticopter & Mr. Handy - CHECK CHECK CHECK!
Ghouls, Deathclaws, vault boy bobblehead and The Mysterious Stranger - QUADRUPLE CHECK
Ron Perlman - ALL THE CHECKS! ;)

I'm guessing the setting is east coast, maybe Philadelphia? The "Vault 111" number seems to suggest as much if nothing else. If there are any notable American landmarks in that I either missed them or aren't familiar with them.
The airship was a nice touch. Wasn't there one in Fallout Tactics?
Nice to see some thriving towns. One of the main things that bothered me about FO3 & NV was how deserted the settlements were. One of the many things that made it hard to buy that it's been over 200 years since the bombs fell. You'd think it'd been more like 30-50 years based on the art design alone.
Also: COLOUR! They actually have some bright, vibrant (if somewhat rusty) colours amidst the wreck and ruin. About damn time!

Finally. Feels like we've been waiting forever for this announcement.

Can't wait to start exploring the new wasteland. :D

*yawn* Knowing Bethesda, this is going to be every bit as shallow as Fallout 3 and Skyrim. Wake me up when Obsidian releases the real Fallout 4.

Super excited! That looked like 360 level graphics though. I've never played XB1 but from what I've seen it's much nicer than that?

Is this Mysterious Stranger from other games? I don't remember that.
