I donno the radiation issue seems to be illusive. People love to act like you die seconds after leaving the van allen belt.
The reality is a bit of water makes for a great way of shielding people.
Of course people might be a good bit more prone to cancer, but it's a questionable issue.
Nice movie, Publius! Mars' atmosphere must be a good deal thinner than I had imagined - there is hardly any distortion of the sun noticable when it touches the horizon.
If we created our own Van Allen Belt of radiation then what would be the problem?
The Van Allen estate would sue for infringement.

The United Arab Emirates are one country, not "the Middle East". You knew that, right?
That was also kind of a bizarre non-sequitur.
Sometimes I wonder if it might actually be profitable enough to ramp up the whole "Ooh look, we found mysterious ...things...on the Martian surface!" Just to generate more interest in Mars exploration. They would not have to embellish or allude to anything. The people in love with aliens/ancient aliens/ancient humans/CIA/Nazi conspiracy theories will handle that all on their own without any real coaxing.
Sort of a positive result from the mass marketing of ancient aliens that has people watching History Channel for the ancient conspiracies from space thing. But overall renewed interest, possible new funding and then mentioning that rock is actually a rock.
